I am a new and excited saddle hunter and I am patiently waiting on my Kestrel to arrive. In the meantime I have found and bought a brand new Trophyline Treesaddle size L from my boss. He purchased it back in 2006 and never opened it. My question may seem silly to you guys but the straps should be safe to use right? The warning on the lineman’s belt says straps should be replaced after 5 years? I don’t want to have an accident so I wanted to ask everyone’s opinion. Thanks in advance!!

It depends on how it was stored. If everything was stored inside and is in good shape it is fine. If it was stored in a shed and is moldy and dry rotted, no. The 5 year warning is just a liability thing.

But if you look at the straps and question their safety, they should be replaced.

It sounds fine. If you look at it and it looks fine, it should be. As we always recommend, test everything out at ground level first.
