Getting ready for Ohio’s opener on September 28. Trying a couple new things and wondered what changes people are putting in their systems this year.
I sold one of my crossbows and got a Mission sub 1 xr xbow. Have a HHA optimizer on with a vortex single dot reticle scope on it. Allows you to change the magnification without affecting arrow impact at different distance. Which you can’t do with most scopes where you adjust the magnification to the speed of your xbow. You just dial in the yardage, change the magnification to where you want.
Trying a turkey vest as my pack. Will keep the sitting pad that comes with it as my knee pad.
Ordered a Tethrd HYS strap to try as my pack and gear hanger. Also ordered the Predator pack to put my platform in.
Friend of mine baited with peanut butter and maple syrup last year. Screwed the lid to a tree, cut the bottom off the jar of peanut butter and screwed the jar onto the lid/tree. Poured an individual serving size maple syrup on top. He said he killed 20 deer using this baiting method In a few weeks on a depredation permit so I’m going to try it this year.
Got a size 2 flex saddle for this year. I hunted out of a size 1 Kestrel the past 2 years.
I’d like more packable cold weather clothes. I have mostly Sitka stuff. It’s great for the sit it’s bulky and doesn’t compress at all. Too warm to wear in, bulky to carry in/out, and a burr magnet to walk around in. Maybe a good shell and down/merino under-layers.
I’m going to play with single sticking but the rest of my system will be the same as last year: 2 muddy sticks and a 5 step aider, predator platform or ROS, small grapple hook, rappel rope and SRT gear.
