Understanding how deer smell

One thing that was touched upon in the podcast is that a dog (or deer) obviously cannot smell an odor molecule if the air current is not taking the molecule to the critter's nose.
We often have these discussions where a lot of guys fall into one of two camps...The "just hunt the wind" camp, or the "odor reduction" camp.
I'm a firm believer that we can do neither to a degree of 100% certainty. We can reduce odor, but we can't eliminate it or cover it. We can try to hunt the wind, but we can't control it or even understand some of the complex wind patterns that we encounter. But if we employ, as best we can, concepts and practices from both camps, we will be a lot more successful. And even if it doesn't lead to filling tags on every hunt, it still is a lot more fun when we don't get busted.

Here is another excellent podcast that should go hand-in-hand with the odor podcast. I've been a wind student for a long time and I thought I understood it all when it comes to wind patterns, but I learned several things in this podcast. Never too old to learn.

Several people have reached out to me about this podcast. @boyne bowhunter was the first to identify me so he gets the prize as a very attentive moderator Most people who saw what I posted in “A different perspective on scent control” can see the similarities.

I definitely enjoy the conversation about odor and regardless of your stance on the issue it’s something we all have to deal with. It’s a tactic and people with exactly opposite approaches can be equally successful. I Hope the podcast addresses odor from both perspectives because it ends up coming down to your own personal hunting situation.

Give it a listen, Dan was a great guy. There are a bunch of good podcasts on the Nine Fingers Chronicles. I just listened to the most recent one with Andy May and it was very good.
