One thing that was touched upon in the podcast is that a dog (or deer) obviously cannot smell an odor molecule if the air current is not taking the molecule to the critter's nose.
We often have these discussions where a lot of guys fall into one of two camps...The
"just hunt the wind" camp, or the
"odor reduction" camp.
I'm a firm believer that we can do neither to a degree of 100% certainty. We can reduce odor, but we can't eliminate it or cover it. We can try to hunt the wind, but we can't control it or even understand some of the complex wind patterns that we encounter. But if we employ, as best we can, concepts and practices from both camps, we will be a lot more successful. And even if it doesn't lead to filling tags on every hunt, it still is a lot more fun when we don't get busted.
Here is another excellent podcast that should go hand-in-hand with the odor podcast. I've been a wind student for a long time and I thought I understood it all when it comes to wind patterns, but I learned several things in this podcast. Never too old to learn.
