Unofficial 2TC Thread

I'm waiting for NJ's winter bow season to start... I don't have any more deer permits and any one that knows the stupid permit system in NJ, it's crazy expensive even for residents.. I'm not giving them more money.. So I'll wait for Jan 1 where we can bow hunt without permits. I've just been duck, pheasant, and small game hunting.

Anyway, I got my bullman ring of steps .. I'm going to try a super lightweight system of 2TC with ROS (no platform, no sticks).. not sure how I'll like it. I practiced 1 time with the ROS and I'm not sure. But I haven't deer hunted since early November so I'm itching to get out there.

If you can make a ring of steps work for you it is about as good as it gets paired with 2TC. You can carry everything you need in a medium backpack.

2TC and ROS. Only ~15 hunts this season (still have thru Jan 31) but all from tree. It truly is the simplest and lightest method. Footloop and tether fit in dump pouch, ROS attaches to molle webbing. Walk in with saddle on. It took me a few sets to get comfortable setting the ROS and keep the steps quiet, but they are comfortable for long sits, no problem. Just have to figure where they need to be set and how to climb above them after setting them.

I used my 50’ rappel rope once to return and SRT up. I love SRT but it’s too much prep for my style -setting presets and all. Throwball is useless.. And 50’ is probably 20’ too long. Will break it down in post season.

Anybody still out 2TCing? I'm 31 hunt days so far as of yesterday and I have the rest of the month and all of January ahead of me. I believe I've hunted once off the ground this season and the rest has been good old 2TC.

I've been playing around with rappel/SRT ideas lately. If I am planning to climb once and be done, it's straight 2TC up and down for me. It's just the simplest system. I'm playing around with the idea of using a 30ish foot rappel rope in situations where I plan to return either for an afternoon hunt or come back in the morning. In that case I can just rappel out and then come back, attach a Grada foot loop and go right back up the tree SRT.

I bought two lengths of rope, each 8mm and each 30 feet long. One is Samson Predator; the other is Ape Canyon Rougarou. The Predator is soft. I don't like it as much for the top tether going up the tree since it is not as stiff as I like a top tether, and I have to fight it a little. The Rougarou is stiff, and makes a better top tether for climbing. On both these ropes I have a JRB Longhorn Agile made from 6 feet of Sterling TRC.

I'm rappelling on a Munter hitch on a Petzl William Ball carabiner.

I climbed on the predator out back the other day and it worked great. Today, I set up the Rougarou and climbed until the stopper knot was just off the ground 2TC and then rappelled out. I then went back up SRT on the Garda foot loop and rappelled back out on the Munter. I attached a pull down line behind the loop and the whole thing came down no problem once I was done. I plan to take this afield soon.

What appeals to me is the fast and easy access back up the tree for subsequent hunts.
2TC was slow today. Cold 26 deg morning with bibs plus I’ve been strapping my bow to my bag and carrying it up versus using a pull up rope. On one hand I like not pulling my stuff up, on the other hand it makes climbing a chore. I climbed keeping my foot in the loop today and pulling slack in and out with the sticht hitch. It seems to be a better option with a heavy load albeit slower.

My system the past two seasons has been 2TC, fix, 50 ft 8mm for rope climbing and rappel. I recently picked up an ambush to try. My first hunt out of it this morning was very nice. I sat on the top side of a leaner and basically turned around and leaned against the tree 90% of the time. Im trying to find my best balance of weight, bulk, comfort etc. I’m going to exclusively hunt out of the ambush the rest of the season and decide whether to go back to the fix or stay where I’m at.

I still haven’t given ROS a fair shake. I’ll hunt once or twice and give it up and sell it. I need more hunts to really iron it out and say definitively I don’t like it.

That a boy!

Dude, I've been telling you for 3 or 4 years to "add a ROS to your platform". It's the best of both worlds!!!
Don't leave home without BOTH

Just wanted to say that these new “stiffened” tethers have made my transition to 2 tc much easier.
I tried to learn this technique back in the summer, with normal tethers. Quickly was frustrated, and went back to sticks.
I picked up a set of stiffened tethers ( thank you @Samcirrus). Took me about 4 climbs to figure out the optimal spacing for me.

My wife said I strongly resembled a squirrel on a practice run this morning.

Gcr0003

I just watched your t2c YouTube clip.
I did want to make a funny comment but thought the better of it. Nice video!

What is the carabiner on the foot loops?
Who sells them?

Thanks
Let er rip haha

They are just standard black diamond wire gate non locking caribiners

Short video overview of how I use JRBs Garda footloop as my do everything foot loop for 2TC or rope climbing

I made an almost identical one a while back and have been using it lately to work out a streamlined SRT/Rappel option for reentry into the tree for subsequent hunts. I see using this option more in the early season hunting feed trees. I plan to do a lot of work on getting this dialed in post season. I may make up a foot tether and try it out that way too. See how I like it opposed to the Blakes loop. The Blakes has served me well so far.

I doubt JRB wants any 'stolen valor'?
The Garda footloop has been around for years.

He has helped bring it to saddle huntin' but rock climbers have - like I said, have been using it for years...

Idk man, his minions get on my videos and request justice for not giving all honor to JRB lol

My understanding was rock climbers have been using it to haul gear up. Putting a footloop on it was a novel JRB idea, but I could very well be wrong.

Whatever you wanna call it, that’s how I use it.

I think the first time I saw anyone using a Garda footloop was a rock climbing chick?
She was a well known female climber. I don't remember her name but I'll try and find her.
