Who uses waist/fanny packs while hunting? What are your thoughts?

I was thinking about using a waist pack for hunting stuff and a plastic molle pack frame to haul platform and sticks. I would leave the frame at the base of the tree and wear the pack up

Prior to this year I'd clamp everything to my climber/ hang on. With the saddle if I'm close enough to drag I'll be going in with only my WE Stepps and a waist pack. After all the beauty of the saddle system, regardless of which one you have, is its versatility, mobility and less weight. The deeper in I go the more likely I'll quarter my critter and shed clothing for walking in. That's when I'll bring my meat hauler with me.

I have the Cabelas Whitetail Hunting Fanny Pack. It works pretty good as long as you don't need to bring anything heavy in it with you as it will sag down and getting kinda annoying trying to walk in and it bumps your legs each step. Turning it around to your back helps but still can't put anything heavy in it. Its good for half day sits or short walks. I like to bring in my clothes on my back so this kinda hampers that, I usually carry in a small back pack that has some molle on it to attach my clothes too instead.

I used a waist pack for scouting and tree prep this year because I can’t stand a backpack on when I’m hot and covering ground. It was nice, but not super comfortable or useful. Space was limited and as @Duckguygonedeer said, you can’t pack anything heavy. At one point, I had a light folding saw, a pair of pruners, a small and light trail camera, and a small python lock and the pack was a pain. Minus the trail cam and cable lock it was bearable, but still not great.

I’m considering moving up to a fanny pack with shoulder straps for this year.

I have a tending 1200. It’s been great. It even holds my twinkies. It has shoulder straps so it won’t sag. And it has a bow/gun holder.

I’m selling a tenzing tz720 right now if anyone is interested. I don’t think I ever even used it. $50 to your door.

I have the Alpz pathfinder and it will probably be my go to this year. It's a large fanny pack with shoulder straps and padded kidney belt. The top of it deploys to turn into a backpack for stuffing extra gear and a water bladder in. Rolls up in the lid of the fanny when not in use. The only complaint, and its not really a complaint, is that I wish the front belt pouches were bigger or removable. I intend at some point to cut them off and sew molle loops for bigger removable pouches. It's a great pack.

Sure does look like it. Might have to make that my new pack.

I did use a Badlands monster fanny pack . Now I use a field & stream pronghorn xl to carry my Kestrel and my ratchet strap with steps .

I'm planning to use a cheap redhead fanny pack for small stuff (mainly my phone) / climbing stuff and a pack for the bulk of my gear.
