Pretty simple question/thread looking for advice here. Only ever used a tab, but I want to try gloves. What are good options and style? I figured just destroying a pair of leather work glove is not the best way to go....I think?

Dont want to break the bank or anything, but from some minor research, I kind of like the Shatterproof Archery's glove. Is there any important things about buying/using a glove that I should look out for? Thank you guys.

How do gloves work when hunting in cold weather? Is a larger sized glove needed so it can be worn over insulating gloves? With a tab, I can slip it over warm gloves.

Hmm....that's a good point too. Do glove user even worn dedicated shooting gloves if they are wearing cold weather gear?

@JCLINE84 turned me onto the Big Shot Elk glove early in my stickbow journey. I have tried 2 others since then and for me, nothing compares to the Elk glove. While it is an investment, I've had it for 2 years now and it shows absolutely no signs of wear as far as construction (thread separation) or finger palm material degradation.

Employing a shooting glove in cold weather has not been a problem for me because I do not wear cold-weather-combatting hand gear at all. Instead, I'll shove my hands in the front pouch of my jacket with a pack of Hot Hands. Before that I used an Ice Breaker muff.

Shooting Gloves, in cold weather.
Yes Wool liner under a size larger glove, this can feel off. I like a fingerless wool glove on draw hand and jam hand into muff or use a stretchy liner type glove fit easily into correct size shooting gloves.
Try it now when it’s cold
I’ve collected a few. Mainly because razorback sold / gave me some used ones and I’ve picked up a few in trades.
Black Widow bows ; they offer some great gloves and tabs (and traditional bow accessories) ship really quick too at reasonable prices.
I alternate both because I’m an idiot and keep calf hair 3 under tab as backup.
I lean towards glove as my shot seems more repeatable and tabs do not seem as durable, easier to lose.
My preferred glove is an American leathers with the nylon finger tips . These are spendy at $60 and up.
2nd would be the Black Widow style with slide through fingers.
I prefer thicker tabs and gloves over soft.
While string sensitive , soft feels “ grabby “ .

*edit_ red beard has a similar American Leather glove . My version is Buffalo.

I have used leather gloves since the beginning. For several years I used cordovan tipped gloves then someone told me they could hear the string coming off of my glove. I never heard it until they said it. I went back to leather tips for hunting. Damascus gloves are some of the best you can buy. I’m shooting one of the Bodnik gloves and it has broken in well and shoots good.

When I shot 60-70 pound bows I needed a heavier glove. Now that I’m shooting a 42 pound Longbow I really need to feel the string to get a clean release. Damascus or Bodnik works.

I would love to be able to use gloves but I have an X-large hand and super short fingers so there is usually at least half an inch hanging over the end of my fingers which don't work for a smooth release. I use my pockets or hand muff an a tab.

I use half finger ragg wool gloves, then put my shooting glove over my fingers on my right hand. I use gloves from American Leathers-John & Lori are good people! I just asked him to make the wrist strap longer so it would fit over the wrist of the wool glove.

I've got (proportionally) stubby fingers myself, and hate when gloves are longer than my fingers. I usually get gloves a size smaller and stretch them out with oil and heat while wearing them. With shooting gloves, though, I've never had an issue. I can tug on the strap on the back of my hand to keep the tips tight to my fingertips and tend out any slack.
