There's tons of videos and slightly different application/material/technique....I thinking about testing on some rags or something else I have to sacrifice

We used to do this with polyester cotton blend sheets and even stay dry shirts. I don’t know what solvent he was using but we would use a jug of mineral spirits and a large tube of pure marine silicone. You’ll get the consistency of melted candle wax…. The sheet will absorb most of it and the solvent will vaporize out pretty quickly. Several hours later the silicone will have dried out. The sheet will stay pretty flexible but it’ll feel very rubbery like when silicone caulk dries on your hand.
Nowadays you can go to the camping section of Walmart or REI and buy waterproofing spray for nylon and polyester. It’ll end up costing a couple dollars more but it’s much easier to lay the sheet out and just drown it with the silicone waterproofing spray then hang it up to dry. AND you get the added benefit of not having to smell mineral spirits for 10 or 15 minutes straight.

I've never had that much luck with the silicone spray stuff....it doesn't seem to last very long and sure doesn't bead up like the stuff in those videos

Depends on how thick you apply it (for the beading effect) however it’s definitely thinner and doesn’t last as long. But sooooo much easier lol

I used the recipe in the first video listed on a diy camera cover made from a pillow case and it worked great
