That’s for 4 straps...
I see. Those hooks might interfere. The "knaider" hook worked, but I couldn't get a regular sized carabiner in there.

I think I’ll give it a shot and then if it doesn’t work I’ve got some extra tiedown straps. I could see it being annoying to have a big honking Cook under your foot the whole time you’re hunting.I see. Those hooks might interfere. So to help @Peterk1234 out with some of the research on this, I went out on this wintry day to try out my suggestion.
It works, I have a feeling that the flat hook will work better and more consistent, but if anyone is looking to try this out they might already have a strap and a hook.
My thought is: I am probably not going to modify my Stepps this way because they're working fine for me as is. I am actually moving away from the Stepps and more towards sticks lately because I can't get over how the Stepps chew up the tree bark. That said, the adjustment capability on this is amazing and I think folks are going to have to resist the urge to go too tight because it is so easy.
Will edit this post with pictures momentarily. I don't have my own documentarian so all you will get is pictures!
Yes, its a daisy chain from my sticks. It seems like the loops on the ones I made for the versa buttons are small enough to take up the slack for fine tuning. The hook is the hang up right now (pun intended).Amsteel Daisy Chain? Interesting idea!
How would you deal with fine tuning? I suppose a custom daisy chain could have really small loops.
What would be the ideal "hook", instead of the big carabiner?

How about using a whoopie sling using the amsteel? It should be able to be loosened easily when uncammed.I'll preface this with no intentions of hijacking this thread. I am kind of a fan of Amsteel and Pete's idea made me think of how I could use it in this application. It's a crude method and would need refining but it's really solid.View attachment 22127View attachment 22128
I was thinking along the same line. Whoopie slings are hard to get tight enough to for use with sticks and platforms but a whoopie sling with a hook should be able to get adjusted correctly for camming a WE stepp. I might have to give this a try.How about using a whoopie sling using the amsteel? Pete- Keep digging on ideas. I was starting to think about selling my steps and go to sticks because of the issues your resolving . I'll hold off and try some of these ideas. ThanksDon't give up on the Steps just quite yet. I have an idea for zero marks on the tree. I need some stuff and then have to test it. It may have some other benefits as well. Pete

I did a search and found this. Looks like it's been an idea that's been brought up before.I feel like someone did. @swampsnyper ?
One thing that makes sense to me is that with a whoppie sling it's tough to get stuff tight to the tree. But with the WE step you want a little slack to cam it over. In theory, it seems like they would be a good fit.
Don't sell your steps just yet, for that reason anyway. I know a batshit crazy DIYer who may be already working on an idea to keep the steps from digging into the tree at all, and they're still super solid. So to help @Peterk1234 out with some of the research on this, I went out on this wintry day to try out my suggestion.

Go for it!Why not this? 4400 lb rating. $35. Your hook one of the hooks onto the strap and hand yourself the other hook. Hook it over the step. Cam it over. Be happy. I think I'll try it. Any objections?
