Weights on end of rope mods?

Is anyone using some type of weight on the end of rope mods? I'm running amsteel rope mods for my sticks and I have the ends whipped and a piece of shock cord through. I've been toying with the idea to add a small weight like a monkey's fist at the end to help toss the end around trunks. Is anyone else doing anything like this?

I try to avoid trees I need to do any tossing around. If I can’t, I just reverse course. I stand with two feet on the stick, position my lineman’s belt to give me the most support/balance possible, and grab the tag end of the rope. I toss the stick around the tree to my free hand.

I don’t use multiple sticks anymore. But it’s the same with one stick. I’ve completed this move probably 100 times. I’m sure some folks will frown on the potential for noise. But I don’t recall any of the deer I killed complaining.

if you just slow down a bit, use your brain to calculate how much rope it will take to swing the stick around without it hitting the tree, and with enough force to reach your other hand without smashing knuckles, it’s pretty simple.

the other argument will be that there’s brush or vines or leaves in the way that the stick would make noise on as it was flung around. Guess what - you ain’t getting a quarter or half ounce end of your rope through that stuff by tossing it either.

throw the stick. Try it at home first though, you’ll be surprised how effective it can be I bet.

I use some metal wire and shrink tubing to give it a little weight. I do this on my pull rope too to help it unravel after taking it out of my pack when I rappel.

Well your no fun. Your way requires no gear modification. Boooooooooooo!

Hold onto the rope and pass your stick behind the tree, way easier and less "chuck and pray" that it doesn't get caught up on stuff. The tree would have to be a beast for it not to work and need a weight on your rope.

This is saddlehunter.com! I thought everyone knows ounces equals pounds. This site isnt what it used to be. Im offended and triggered!!

This was almost as much of a revelation (two seasons ago) as the truckers hitch on daisys was this past season! Simple. Unless its a big mature cottonwood, lol

Kinda sounds like you're envisioning the saddle hunting version of a slinky weight. Just a few split shot inserted in the end of your rope mod could work, interesting idea...

Nope. No added weight. Just pass the rope or stick around the tree. Simple. Hardly ever hunt out of exceptionally large trees I suppose.
