What Accessories Should I Buy?

So on a whim, I picked up a Samick Sage off of Craigslist for $50. I've been meaning to pick up another pack of BHs, so I need to an excuse to buy enough stuff to get free shipping, and figured I'd get stuff to start learning how to shoot the darn thing.

My list is currently...

1) Lighter Limbs: The bow currently comes with 55lb limbs, which I get the feeling would be inappropriate to start with. My short DL (~26") means that it's probably closer to 50lb but still... I'm thinking I should pick up a set of 40lb? It looks like the guy installed the limbs in the wrong location (top on bottom and vice versa)
2) Bow stringer
3) Bow square
4) New arrows: I'm assuming the 330 spine arrows I have for my compound would be too stiff, especially if I get 40lb limbs. Seems like 500 is a good starting point for just range arrows?

Anything else I should pick up?

Make sure your arrows have feathers and not plastic vanes! And you are gonna want some felt with sticky back if you are gonna shoot off the shelf!

Arm guard.
Maybe some string silencers and brush buttons (but not a requirement), nock sets and pliers. All fairly inexpensive stuff. Bow quiver?

A decent target. I shoot way more with trad than I ever did with my compound and my targets show it. Heard I think on a podcast recently, trad is the most fun you'll ever have missing the bullseye. It's a whole different world.

Also shooting a sage, 45#, dropped to 35# to start. Everyone's different but dont be to proud to go light.

I tried a similar stump shooting head a couple years ago and had a bad experience of them splitting the tip of my carbon Sitka shafts.
I surmised that since the head diameter was much wider than the arrow shaft, there was significant lateral energy when the edge of the head made contact with a hard object. I was trashing shafts in short order. That style head would probably be best with an outsert which I was not shooting at the time.
I never had that experience with Judo points.
And a judo can be easily configured to weigh ~220 grains, or less. I suppose that they could be made heavier, too.
It is my one gripe about Zwickey...I wish they made Judos in more weight choices.

I would start with 600 spine arrows. Glove or tab, arm guard.

I have the Sage in 55# and also have the 25# limbs for practice. Get a set of 25# and do your shoulder a favor. I only sling a few rounds a season with the 55#. It can wear you down. I went cheap with some High Plains Hunter 400 carbon arrows and some Fleetwood 600's. I think I have .110 and .125 grain tips for practice. I picked them up on Ebay or 3 Rivers years ago. I even shoot arrows from my Grizzly. Gold Tip 500's. They all fly pretty straight. I even sling old compound arrows I have laying around. The Sage is a nice bow for the money. Heavy though. Have fun! Trad shooting is simple and fun!

Thanks for all the help guys. Never even realized about the feathers instead of vanes, but it makes a lot of sense! I picked up some of the stuff (arrows, tab), but I think there's more to go. I think I won't really have time to tinker with this stuff until next year, but I'm definitely looking forward to it.

I will add another couple things.
Limb tip protector for your bottom limb. I use my bow as a base for steadying me while I glass with binoculars. My bottom limb tip is often on my platform or in the dirt while I lean on my bow while I glass.
Also. A Sta jac or other brand of arrow keeper is priceless.

I have been stump shooting for years with Ace Hex Heads with little to know incidents. Most of my stump arrows are arrows that have been damaged and repaired with an aluminum footing. I epoxy a piece of a 2117 shaft and shoot those at stumps and squirrels. I have had inserts back out or pull out when they are buried but I have only had one blow up that was footed and it hit a rock on an angle.

That's why I said to use an outsert.

40lb limbs for practice
glove/tab- shooters preference.
Some 500 weight arrows w/ feathers.
Beaver balls or wool poof string silencers.
Spare string
empty .357 brass slid over and siliconed over your field tips make great stump shooters/ blunt tips on the cheap. Easily removed.
Good cut on contact fixed blade broadhead for hunting

....Beaver balls or wool poof string silencers.....

I was a big fan of those more traditional style silencers (I used beaver balls for a long time) but I got tired of them getting all matted up with burrs. I hunt some areas with a lot of beggars lice. Those burrs are so miserable to remove from clothes and other gear including silencers.
I bought some Black Widow silencers and I really like them. They don't absorb rain or burrs. And they are easily relocated on the string which effects arrow tuning.
