What Are You Wearing? Best Winter Clothes For Saddle?

I’m new to saddle hunting. I love it so far! I’m looking for some good recommendations on late season cold weather clothing. I will be bow hunting so I need it to be as thin as possible. I’ve never bow hunted in the late season an I have never saddle hunted in the late season. So I need some specific information. Let me know exactly what you wear and how you stay warm. I’m in Alabama so it doesn’t get crazy cold but I also hate the cold and get cold very easy. I’m tired of wearing my whole closet and still freezing to death in the late season. I want to be able to sit for several hours and be comfortable while still being able to shoot my bow. Any tips or info is greatly appreciated! Thanks guys! Good luck this year!

Well, I'll tell you what I wear. YMMV. For temps down to the thirties it's midweight merino base layers with merino socks, scent lok amp top with midweight pants, 600gm redhead boots. Sitka gradient gloves also. I wear this into the tree I'm going to climb minus the top. Once I've climbed and set I put my top back on. As I cool off I add a scentblocker merino vest and beanie. This does me good. Once the temps drop down into the twenties I switch to cabelas insulated baselayers and merino socks, natural gear incinerator top and bottom. 1000gm redhead boots. Natural gear neck gaiter and radar cap. I wear the incinerator pants to the tree but lash the top to my pack, cap and gaiter go in the pack and don't put it on till I'm cooled off. Gotta get the sweat gone. I also use a natural gear muff with hand warmers. I try to make sure any gear I get blocks the wind as I find I can pretty well withstand cold but if the wind is blowing its game over and I don't want to add a wind layer over the top and be like stay puff in a tree.

Yeah. I use minus33 midweight top and bottom layers. The scentlok top I put over that is billed as a midweight, I wear it because it's tight weave helps block the wind. For pants over my base layer bottoms I wear my old bdu's. Plenty thick.
One thing about merino wool, follow the care instructions. It's really easy to wreck a set without even trying.

I got the Cabela’s woolimate set last year and love it. They keep me warm into the low 20’s last year in north Florida although it was a very damp cold. Not cheap but great in my opinion

Can't go wrong with wooltimate.

You ever get cold bring hot coffee or your choice in one of those metal cups like a yeti. And if your toes ever get cold do some calf raises on your platform.

As for layers upper body gets 5 layers, lower 4 layers. That's when temps drop down in the singles with wind chill in the negatives. Even in the 30's I will fully suit up. You want thin, primaloft as mid layer I feel will make you warmest. I've tried with fleece but keep coming back to some sort of puffy insulation as a mid mix with fleece.

Yup. Cabelas has an awesome jacket with a hood that has primaloft in the chest/back area and fleece sleeves.

I agree with the merino suggestion. This morning it was 35 deg at daylight and got to 52 deg by lunchtime. My son and I had about 3/4 mile hike in. I was wearing merino and he was wearing underarmour cold gear base layers. The rest of our layers were similar. He got sweaty and froze, I stayed dry and was comfortable all morning.

I love merino and wear it every hunt, but for long sits under 40 degrees warmth really has to comes from a loft layer and wind proofing. 20 ways to accomplish that.

Picked up a set of Sanctuarys last winter and was impressed with the warmth but not the packability or durability of the outer fabric. This year I've gone to Sitka for outer layers and minus 33 for base layers.

I just got the predator fleece jacket and pants. It's the first time I've ever bought nice hunting clothes. I'm tired of freezing every year lol. This stuff is really nice and very warm. It was 39 degrees last Saturday morning and I was in the saddle with the fleece jacket and a t shirt and I had to unzip it.

Most of the year I use Day One Camo fleece pullover and pants. I have used the same set for 23 years! I just change my layers under the fleece based on weather.
If it’s really cold, I will substitute the fleece pants for an insulated pair of Gray Wolf Woolens insulated bibs-the older “J” material. It’s awesome.

Me too! I always buy cheap stuff. I’ll wear 15 layers and still freeze!
