What do love about hunting?

We all have different and various reasons on why we like to hunt. Besides the adrenaline rush I get before and after I shoot a deer, it's the pursuit and the chase that does it for me. I love exploring new spots, finding hot sign, slipping into an area without disturbing anything and having success. I love playing cat and mouse, I feel as though the deer have to be lucky all the time but I just need to get lucky one time I love chasing the unknown, there's nothing like sitting in a tree and watching the sun rise and knowing it's a new day in the woods and anything can happen. As the season fast approaches I can't help but get excited. One last thing, I'm getting tired of shooting at foam and I'm ready to see some blood on an arrow! I'm tired of messing with gear lol

This might sound really weird but I’ve now noticed this the last few years right as the season ends. I love the preparation. I love walking out in the woods, looking for signs cutting trails, prepping trees. I’ve realized I like that part of it so much because I totally do it at my own leisure. I don’t have to creep in worried about wind direction, my scent, the noise I’m making ect.

I’m excited for the season to come now but it’s sort of like now the heat is on, I now have to get in the mind set of the stalker. I love it, but it’s certainly not relaxing like the off season.

I too have enjoyed the off season more the last few years. I totally get where you're coming from.

I like not knowing what's going to happen. I might sit there all day and see nothing or I might kill something huge. I also enjoy being alone listening to the woods way up in a tree. Even just seeing deer makes it fun for me
Yep. I love going somewhere new and just seeing deer. It's very relaxing to watch nature come alive high in a tree.

Quiet. I spend all day in front of a computer for work and am basically subjected to constant sensory stimulation.

It takes a while to adjust, but it's nice to just sit and be quiet.

For me it's it as much about being out in the woods by myself with some peace and quiet as anything. My wife always asks when I come home and I I haven't seen anything or had any luck why do I go sit out in the cold in the woods for nothing. And I simply look at her and tell her you hear all that stuff coming out your mouth I don't hear any of that out there. With a smile on my face of course.

Haha sounds like me. My wife has said similar things often times telling me I'm wasting my time. I'm quick to remind her that it does me a lot of good getting to be in the woods, so unless she wants me to start getting rude and cranky it's in her best interest to let me go

As most will agree, taking a deer is the cherry on top of a big ice cream sundae when it comes to being in the woods. Sitting quietly in a tree observing the wildlife go about their daily life and listening to the different sounds of the forest is priceless. And the fact that I don't have to deal with humans once I'm in there is another reason I enjoy my hunting season!

I love being out in nature and actually slowing down enough to see the beauty in all things created.(with exception to ticks and mosquitoes haven’t seen the beauty there yet.) I enjoy meeting other hunters. My wife thinks I’m nuts for carrying on an hour conversation with someone I’ve never met. I explain that we share a common passion for something we love. It’s easy to connect with other hunters even if we disagree with how or why we do what we do it’s still a shared love. I love the peace and quiet times that allow me to reflect on my everyday junk. I may sit on a pond dam all day without catching a fish or in a tree without seeing a deer but you can bet I will have solved most of my and the worlds problems before I climb down. I love the successful hunts too. The feeling I get when successful is exciting, triumphant, and humbling at the same time. I get to relive that feeling with every bite of game I eat. It doesn’t just feed my physical body but my spiritual body as well. I can’t think of any time I have bought a steak at a restaurant and got more enjoyment out of reflecting on how something I did at work made each bite possible, than the meal itself. Maybe I should as obviously life would be much more enjoyable but I’m just not wired that way.

Best part for me is when the sun rises and the woods wake up. Love that, non hunters rarely experience that. Then of course all the adrenaline that comes with sending an arrow through a deer!

I love just about all of it. I've been enthralled with hunting since as long as I can remember trying to keep up with my dad as a little tot. I love just about the whole entire process. The anticipation this time of year as we start feeling some crispness to the air. Scouting and putting the puzzle together. Watching the woods wake up in the morning. The pace of a fall day and the seasonality of it all. All the thrills and anticipation. Making the most of the fruits of our labor. Sharing the whole experience with loved ones. I feel sorry for people who don't get it, this is living.

I love scouting new areas and finding the hotspots and the success that follows. For me scouting is a critical activity it gives me the needed confidence to sit a spot knowing that deer will show up

Oh I love the peace and serenity of creation and the inner peace it brings. Just unwinding and soaking up the peacefulness of the woods is reinvigorating. I hunted alone for many years, except when my kids were young, but now I share this experience with my wife. She started hunting several years ago, and it’s brought us even closer. Texting back and forth about sounds and sights has been so fun. She gets so excited about seeing young non shooter deer and trying to not get busted by turkeys(wood snitches). The hours of conversation after a hunt with her is great. When one of us harvests a deer it becomes even greater. I still hunt with several buddies and my son on public land as well, and that is a different kind of special. Maybe a little bit more competitive but still fun. There are so many facets to hunting that bring enjoyment it would be tough to write.

This is actually a surprising difficult thing to answer. Its hard to put my finger on one thing, its almost as if hunting satisfies some primal need that I can't fully put my finger on. My daily life is a world of bouncing between two minute tasks that aren't necessarily defined by me. Hunting allows me to relax and shift my focus onto what I want for a while. I love watching the woods come to life in the morning and shut down in the evening. There's something serene in just sitting and enjoying the show.

Then there's the other side of the coin. I've always been an adrenaline junkie in my pastimes and activities. There's nothing like the squirt of adrenaline that you get when you see that deer heading your way. The better the deer the greater the squirt, this may be why I personally like to target more mature deer. For me there's more on the line and the adrenaline squirt involved is more significant. Being able to keep your composure and have everything come together at the right place and right time is the ultimate satisfaction.

The contrast between the relaxing time spent observing nature as a part of it and the excitement of the moment of truth is almost counter intuitive but I truely do enjoy both aspects.

Back muscle engagement. I have a jacked up back, and the way a saddle uses your own back muscles to support you keeps my back from screaming out in pain after a few hours. Sitting on any kind of lock-on stand just killed me.

Edit: oops, I thought it said SADDLEhunting...

What I love about hunting in general is an ENDLESS list. I think primarily, it is the disconnect. I am finding more and more that I enjoy silence. Maybe it is a result of my job, interacting with a few hundred people a day makes me want to go somewhere quiet.

Also, I love any form of providing food from the land. I garden, forage, fish, and hunt. It all fills my freezer, and it’s addicting once you learn how to do it.

Couldn't agree more with all the above. In short, God created man to have dominion over his creation. That is why we were originally created. Hunting is what makes me feel closest to this original plan.
