What do you prefer? Onxhunt or Huntstand?

I'll add a vote for OnX. Jack of all trades, master of none. It does bits and pieces of EVERYTHING you want to do well enough in a single, easy to use app.... so, I find no need cherry picking multiple apps for each task anymore. I used to use a total of 3 phone apps PLUS google earth pro desktop, and spent HOURS transferring KMZ's and KML's to compile folders and folders of data on google earth pro. It was absolutely awesome to be able to filter all data by year, season, sign type, sightings etc... but I just can't justify the hours it took to compile the data anymore.

I’ve used HuntStand but just the free version. It has worked really great for what it is. I’ve always wondered if on x would be worth buying though

I was speaking with a tech about a bug in onx and I was talking about how they need a folder option. He said the next release should have that. He said it has been asked about forever.

I use OnX between the 2. I keep all 50 states as I'm w/in 2 hours of (AR, IL, KY, MS, MO, TN) and so much public I hunt has private inholdings.

I love Gaia Gps, it has all the same layers, also has offline maps and is cheaper. I pay $40 and I get private land info and boundaries for the country. Other apps charge by state. It does everything I need it to do for hunting and scouting just does not have some of the fancy hunting themed bells and whistles. I can drop pins and change color of pins but I can't drop a pin that has a picture of a deer hoof to indicate a trail, I have to write that in the description of the pin. I can use the web version on my pc to do virtual scouting and drop pins on places I want to check. My brother and I did a comparison he bought OnX and I used Gaia. Both performed well in the field but he found OnX to be a little clunky, there were more clicks needed to do simple things I can do in Gaia faster and easier, if that makes sense. He is not tech savvy at all so he sometimes got frustrated with that aspect of the OnX app.

I found the exact same thing. I can’t put deer hooves or a picture of a tree stand on the map but with one click I can be done marking a waypoint. It is also a lot easier to edit way points on Gaia. The other thing is the Gaia app seems to get the GPS signal and get steady a lot quicker to me

I use OnX mostly because off the off line function in areas i have no service. I am not familiar with Huntstand or the apps mentioned but do they offer the offline abilities like OnX?

There's a feature suggestion for additional waypoint icons on Gaia that includes deer/elk/stand/tracks etc... it's marked as "Planned" vs just "Requested", so it's supposed to be getting in a future version, but I don't see any info on when.

I'm using Onx now but when my subscription runs out I'll be switching to Gaia. My beef with Onx is you can't share gps location even with yourself. If I mark a spot with onx I can't look it up on caltopo without putting pen to paper and taking down the coordinates. Onx works well but if you want to get into different maps of the same location it is a drag.

I have only used HuntStand. It has a feature called HuntZone that shows your forecasted scent cone hour by hour. That is really handy, all though it is not always accurate. Can any of you Onx users tell me if OnX has a scent cone feature? If so I might give it a try this year.

I've used OnX and Scoutlook as well, I enjoy the capability of Scoutlook to track trails and save them and give me wind directions at the same time as looking at the terrain. However, I have begun to primarily use OnX maps for marking trails and specific details/signs within an area. I don't necessarily think there is one preference over another but OnX is my go to for landowners.
