I have been using my LB after getting tethered to the tree. Put LB where I want it, snug up a prusik knot to hold it in place, add a few S hooks for gear/bow and good to go.
 
I use a climbing rated strap with loops to hang my bag. I screw a bow holder in right below my tether and it has the advantage of stopping it from slipping down if it goes a little slack.

I hunt public land but there’s no rule I’m aware of about screwing things into trees.
