This is what I was thinking. Thoughts?

I like the idea. The second drawing looks like it would be an awesome platform, but only for a particular size tree. If they were smaller though, say sized for only having two feet on each one, then maybe you could put two of them up at the same height and still be mobile around 3/4 of the tree. Unless you're thinking something different than what I'm thinking. Have you thought about how you're gonna make these yet?

Ok. I see what your thinking. That would be much larger. Possibly an aluminum A frame that would give you purchase on both sides of the peak.
Maybe it could rest on the top step and be secured to the tree with a strap.
I'm still leaning toward the smaller size.
Maybe something like this would only be for short walks in.

What do you guys think is the largest diameter tree you would ever use? I am kicking around an idea.

Instead of a curved tree contact surface, why not make a V bracket or Batwing style surface that can mate with any size tree? I also think that weight will add up quickly as the size of the platform grows. Best to keep it small for mobility, but wide enough to put two feet on, at least for the center step. If it's not long enough of a platform surface for an entire foot, it might get uncomfortable as it forces the toes to be at the tree trunk but heels hanging off the edge. If the platform is held a little further out from the tree, as in an angled surface mounted to the top of a climbing stick, you could use a shorter surface and center your weight on the surface with a little toe hanging over and a little heel hanging over.

Anybody use a summit buckstep? I've never seen one in person but from the way they look in catalogs they look perfect. input from anyone that has them or has seen them would be helpful thanks

Yes, When ever I am not using the assassins. I generally use 4 ameristeps on a strap (mobile) or 4 screw ins for pre sets, with either one of my assassins or one of the bucksteps. I replaced their straps with a good ratchet strap. and wrap 5/16 diamond braid poly rope "from Walmart" around the top step, for quietness, and cushioning. Several years on them, very pleased with them.

Do you have a parts list for the stuff you put together? I'd like to build one this summer to add to my setup.

Still the standard all other platforms are compared too.
I'll get around to making one some day.
I disagree. I went full circle and am back to using a modified KLEMZ design. Both are great. I prefer Dave's when using an elite sized platform but the Klemz is still my go to.
