What to tape, what to stealth strip, what to camoform?

I'm probably splitting hairs here but what different pieces of your gear do you:

1. Use Stealth Strips on?
2. Use Camoform tape on?
3. Use cloth hockey tape on?

I'm thinking stealth strips go on sticks and platforms, camoform tape on gear that you do not want a sticky residue on, and cloth hockey tape on things like steps, biners, smaller gear that can clank against the bigger stuff. Have you had problems with any of these products absorbing and holding moisture. Here in WNY its always wet at some point during hunt, either by sweat in the early season, rain in the spring and fall and obviously snow and ice in the winter months. I want to quiet my gear down but I don't want it constantly staying wet either. Experiences, thoughts, ideas and suggestions welcome.

You’re on the same thought process I’m on right now. Which tape to buy and which one is the most practical to use in everything. I want good adhesion, but I don’t want duck tape type mess like all the residue it leaves on everything. I’m thinking about something like a cloth camo tape. Something I can get more miles for my money and still serve the purpose to quiet my gear. Years ago I was able to get a fleece type material that I used on my bow riser and surrounding area to keep from making the metal to metal clank with the aluminum arrows used back then. I’m not sure if it’s the same product as the stealth strips. I’ll have to buy a small pkg to try out. I’m trying not to spend money on something that’s unnecessary or more expensive than something that will work while also giving more for the money.

Stealth Strips go on anything that you want to permanently cover and never plan to take it off. I also have some "moleskin" type stuff that I use on my bow riser area and it seems to be very similar to Stealth Strips. Stealth Strips are a little thinner than that and they stick much better. Sticks are perfect to cover in strips. Can also cover Kong Ducks, cam buckles, and platform parts.

Camoform is great as it doesn't leave any residue so its good to temporarily cover something or to cover stuff you don't want to have a sticky mess on. SquirrelSteps like Camoform I'm told. Also great for carabiners.

I've never used cloth hockey tape. I would think you'd get almost the same mess as Stealth Strips without the sound deadening qualities or camo.

Cheap vet wrap is another alternative and is readily available from your local farm store or from select online retailers (some carry it in multiple camo patterns). I've used vet wrap to temporarily wrap DoubleSteps or other prototype parts mid-season so I don't have to paint them until after the season is over. Which reminds me, I have some painting to do on some steps and other parts.

Just what I wanted to see. Dan O I just got some double steps from ya to modify my lone wolf sticks. Will paint adhere to the aluminum and you have any tips on painting them? I was thinking they are so smooth the paint might flake off....Your thoughts please.....Hey how bout offering them dipped in camo

You need to use aluminum self-etching primer first to paint the bare aluminum DoubleSteps and parts. If you opt for the anodized version you don't need to use primer and the anodizing makes a great base coat or you can just leave them black.

I've thought about offering them dipped, wouldn't be cheap.

I've camo diy spray painted my Dano double steps and they latest the first season w no issues of adherence.
I have stealth strips on my LW sticks and assault 2 seat post, and on the riser of my bow
campform wrap on the perimeter of the platform and i used hockey tape and then camoform over it on my fold out foot pegs for added noise damper (hockey tape alone didn't cut it)
I run a hybrid stand saddle combo but I've been happy w the stealth strips and camoform in these apps!

I primary use vet wrap. Lacrosse tape (just like hockey tape but the roll has 3/4 and 1/4 width on same roll) goes on any tiny biner or plastic d-ring or zipper. My climbing sticks have stealth strip.

Camoform will absolutely leave a sticky residue if left on for multiple seasons. I have switched to cheap vet tape from Tractor Supply for that very reason for all my sound absorbing needs.

Is the vet wrap self sticking or how does it stay on if it doesn't have any tackiness to it?

It’s the same type material you use for first aid. It sticks to it self, but nothing else. Only instead of just the normal ace bandage color tan, it comes in camo and all sorts of colors.

I've had vet wrap on my bow grip all season and it has pilled up and a little tacky. That tackiness is a positive in that application. It's also been on my little angled platform all season.....needs to be all replaced but it is so cheap it is not big deal. Stays on better that spray paint and dampens sound a little .

I have bicycle inner tube over my buckles. Has lasted 3 years so far , no complaints
Switched to rope mod for weight savings, now only use the strap buckle w my stand

I painted my buckle with liquid tape. It is much quieter. I will let you know how it holds up. I also painted the liquid tape on my Predator where the two touch.
