What were YOU doing in 2004?

In 2004 I was just just drinking to extremes and using a lot of drugs. The only thing I was hunting was split tails, and a way to wake up with no hangover. Then I met my beautiful wife and did a 180( if I'm being honest that 180 had a pretty large curve). If it wasn't for her I wouldn't be doing anything except laying in a coffin. I didn't start deer hunting until very late in life. Fell in love with archery hunting around 2009. 2010 I got hurt on the job and didn't bow hunt at all again until about 2014. By 2017 tired of sitting in the same stands, seeing the same three deer and started looking for a better way. That ultimately led me here. I wished I would have put as much time and effort into hunting as I did getting loaded all those years. There's no telling I might even be knocking on @WHW'S door with my kill numbers. Who am I kidding that dude has killed more deer than I've seen.

During the 2004 season I got lucky and killed my 342nd deer, which was my 259th bow kill. :)

Something tells me luck has very little to do with it LOL. You are always so modest and humble. Amazing to think we have guys who were just out of diapers to sage veterans wacking and stacking them back then all in this same forum.

2004 I was hunting public land in N. Florida, where I'm still at today. I built wooden ladders stands ( a few are still out there.) metal ladders, climbers , and Treelounge. I've had an Anderson treesling since the early 80's. I hunted Pa. back then. We would set up in the crotch of a tree with a wooden platform nailed in with 2x4 steps nailed in to climb up. My first mobile platform was plywood (14" x 18") with a L bracket that attached to the tree with a auto seat belt. Lucky to be here some of the stuff we did! I still have the Anderson (modified) a Trophyline Ambush, and a couple Sit Drags. I use bolts, steps sticks to get up.

In 2004 I got a package in the mail. I opened it up and watched the dvd that came with it. The next morning I took my brand new tree suit into the swamp about a mile and a half. I climbed a tree with screw in steps and put a ring of screw in steps in the tree and attached my tree suit to the tree in the dark. A little after sunrise a bachelor group of bucks came behind me. I managed to turn myself around in the tree suit and I shot one of the bucks.

Since then I have continued to hunt from my tree suit but I found ways to modify it to make it easier to use. I haven't hunted exclusively from my tree suit all of the years since but it has been the main way for me to hunt from a tree since then.

I can't say for sure this was 2004 as it may have been 2003 but I am just not sure.

2004 I’m pretty sure I read my first @John Eberhart book checked out from my local library. I’d read all the other deer hunting books there, and it was new. May have been 2005, but certainly no later than that. I heard of his use of a sling and thought, “Wow! What a dumb idea! Ladder stands and box blinds are much better. It only took me 14 more years to be convinced....

2004 had never heard of saddle hunting (this will be my first year when the mantis comes in). Was packing a tree lounge up and down ridges on our lease and had 20 years in working in a maximum prison as a parole officer......... I made parole 4.5 years ago!

I think I was in 7th grade and, if I remember correctly, that was the year I killed my first doe! Shot it with a .270 from a wooden platform my dad built in a sycamore tree on our farm.

Same here I would have been in 7th grade, think I had one deer under my belt at that time a button buck I got with a .243

I got started bow hunting about 2007 when I was 15 hang on stands and screw in steps we’re where I got started I always hated climbers but I did use them some I found out about the trophy line tree saddle my senior year of high school I was a hair away from ordering one but all my buddies thought I was crazy plus money was tight so I passed on buying one then, fast forward to 2016 I got curious about the saddle again and that’s when I discover this site and the sit drag, man could I kick my self in the hind end for not buying that trophy line way back when my buddies still think I’m crazy but I don’t care because saddle hunting is awesome!!!
