1-public land
2,- 2 weeks ago bumped a buck in the vicinty in the dark
3- Saturday- creek 15 yds behind me and corn field 20 yds ahead. To my right a buck comes from 30 to 18 yds, nose up and a slight wind blowing directly from me to him. He finally thought better, snorted and took off. Thought the day was done.
4- 40 minutes later i see antlers poking up above the corn, to my left, about 30yds away. He must have circled the field. I know he is in a 20' diameter area of downed stalks and i see him move to 20 yds through about 5 yds standing corn. Watch for 20 minutes as he meanders around. Now the wind is in my favor. I do not think he knew I was there but he moved deep in the corn not to be seen again.
5- due to being late and discovering the tree I wanted to climb was not suitable I was on the ground. If in a my saddle different ending. Thinking of going back Tuesday but is it to early?

Doesn't sound like you shook him up too much. With it being public land, you may have had a dozen people rolling through since this happened. I would wait for the right weather/wind and hit the woods. That said, I kill several deer every year, but I have never killed a buck over 1.5 years old. I am no expert. I just love to hunt.

Id say you did not blow it...he is still there and you learned something from that encounter. I'm a pretty firm believer that you can bump a deer once and get away with it...twice or more in the same area well that is a different story for seeing him in the daylight again there imo...Also, those are just the deer you encountered that evening and if they were there, there are other deer there as well that had no clue...maybe even a bigger buck! Get the wind right and go in!

is he still alive? if so he can still be killed. Might be harder but nothing will make you grow more as a hunter then going after a good buck that is on to you. He has he nose, eyes, ears and better knowledge of the area - you have a hair covered computer that is far superior than anything he has going for him - let the games begin.

I would try again & then maybe let it cool off for a while
