Where are you hanging your pack?

Long time hunter, but first season going with a saddle system. When using any sort of tree stand I've always put my pack under my seat or between my legs as much as it would allow. Pack was never an issue. Out of sight but also easily accessible when needed with minimal movement.

Pack placement with a saddle has been my one snag so far. I have a tree strap and hook system which works just fine, but where to hang the pack is my issue. Hanging it to my sides and it is accessible but I feel it is in the way for both seeing and shooting. Hanging it to the sides but elevated up a bit and it is still accessible but is in the way for seeing and potentially for shooting. Hanging it directly above or below me keeps it out of the way, but a lot of movement and potential noise to access it. Also concerned that it may provide more of a visual detection risk for deer regardless of where I hang it since it's just a blob on a tree that doesn't belong there.

And what makes it worse is that I just ordered a Kuiu pack that is even larger than my current pack.

So what do you do? Any advice is appreciated.

I hang it on my right side at about knee level. I use the Latitude outdoors strap and it makes it really easy and quiet to raise the pack when I need it and lower it back down when I dont. Skip to about the 4:00 minute mark to see what I'm talking about. I use a Kifaru full frame pack and its no issue.

Weak side. Approximately 2:00 position. Right handed.

Screw in hook at about knee level. Paracord loop on pack long enough for pack to hang low enough and be out of the way. This works with platform, ROS, and platform with steps on the strap.

How I keep my gear on a tree. Pine ridge metal coated hanger/hook. They are on a stronger strap. One on right above my tether, one on my left just below my belt line

Weak side about 4:30 roughly a foot or so under my tether/rappel rope.

So I was hanging mine directly below my tether. I found though that a lower tether height was more comfortable to me meaning chest to mid section high. I now hang my pack directly above it. I prefer to have my pack between me and the tree. 1 it allows to me grab a snack, drink, or my phone with little movement. 2 it makes for a great pillow when I just need to close my eyes for a minute or two.

Thanks for all of the recommendations and ideas. I'll be trying some of those next time I'm up in the tree.

Top of the bag is about waist high on my off side.

Thanks for the pictures, that helps explain it. A couple of things to consider - when I tried this setup - it was GOOD, because getting out gear, water, snacks, etc., was much easier and resulted in less overall movement; however, it was also BAD, because it prevented me from sitting or straddling the tree when in the sitting position, kind of blocked my view in that direction, the pack got in the way on a drop shot/shot at the 5:00/6:00 position, and the straps from the backpack's waistbelt interfered with my feet on the platform. Goes to show that what works for some doesn't for others!

Mine goes low and too the left a little lower than waist high it’s easy to access and is not in the way when I sit

I don’t do a lot of hiking. I’m on private land. Park the truck. Wheeler for a mile and half. Walking less than a mile. Therefore, I took the waist belt off my pack. (Which on this pack is pretty dope by the way.)

The only shot I see myself limited on is 2-3, but I’ve practiced it going around the tree opposite of pack coming off the side of the platform.

I try to set up somewhere with a lot of back over close to my backside, the 5-6 drop shot is generally not an option.

I use a HYS strap from Tethrd that has tons of adjustment on where you can put your pack imo. Especially hight.

I use a turkey vest and *mostly hang it directly in front of me from a screw in hook. This allows easy access to my coffee and my camera gear while
Also allowing me to drop the seat cushion so when I sit my knees go against the cushion instead of the tree.

I always hang mine on my weak side. And I almost always setup with my weak side being the least likely area I'll have to shoot. Although I did have to shift over to my weak side to make a shot on a bear this year. My pack did not get in my way, but if it would've been an issue I could have just shifted back to my strong side to make that shot and the tree would block most of the movement involved. I often would worry more about my bow hanger getting in the way. So now I just set up with my gear strap as high as I can reach to eliminate any potential problems.

Keep it simple. I put gear in a dump pouch and hang it on my right side, leave the pack at the base of the tree. If I can’t fit it in the dump pouch, then I figure I don’t need it in the tree.

I put the bottom of my back about knee height so its not rubbing my legs when leaning and is my kneepads when sitting.

I have been having better luck with my tether line at the top of my head. Then I put a gear strap with S hooks just below that. Bow on left side and pack on right. It may be a blob on the side of the tree, but I’m hiding behind it on my weak side. Having the top of my pack about neck high is working for me. Some folks put their knees into it…..I tried that once

Try to keep it on right side ,because that's my hand ,bow is on left . Branches and trees permitting on both ,early season I don't take a pack
