I am not so sure about a hammock since I have never used one.
You still need to keep your stuff dry in rain or snow, so I think I would go with a tent.
I had that concern too but the first backpack hunt I did was with a tarp and hammock setup. We just barely got camp set before it started raining. Over the next 12 hours it never stopped raining and there were several rounds of pretty heavy storms rolled through with lightening hitting all around us. Didnt have a single issue with gear getting wet. Sucked being stuck under the tarp that long but no worse than being in a small backpack tent for sure. We could at least standup, stretch and move some.

I haven't been in WV in the winter, but grey will likely blend in with your surroundings in winter better than OD green. Either way, the advice to dust with rattlecan is probably going to be your best bet. I'd add a couple-four yards of camo netting or mesh to brush in your tent and the rest of your camp. Take a look at https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/sarma-tst-l7-camouflage-cloak/57825 maybe you would DIY up one or two to augment your camo game. A few yards of durable mesh, with loops to tie in foliage, wouldn't take up all that much room or weight in your pack.

I like the gray color but just my personal preference. Hammock and tarp would be my go-to. Lots of camo patterns to choose from also. Good luck

You hammock users…… I’ve never tried one as I’m a stomach sleeper not a back sleeper although I do often wake up on my back. How comfortable are they for stomach sleepers???

Never had a problem with sleeping in one on my stomach or side. If you are sleeping on a diagonal, you should be fairly flat. Some people like the bridge hammocks very flat just like a bed. Check out Hammock fourms.net, and Shug Emery utube lots of good information. Good luck

Grey will blend in good on a gravel road....maybeView attachment 86194
Not everybody lives in a rain forest.....

I've had back surgery and subsequent issues and if I had my way I'd be sleeping in a hammock in my bedroom. The best nights sleep I get are hanging in my hammock. Dano has a nice setup that's affordable. The rain fly is black so if u wanted to be sneaky maybe need to paint or just carry enough of that really lightweight camo fabric to drape over. A hammock setup keeps u just as dry if not more dry than a tent setup in long soaking rains but more importantly u able to set it up to were u can stand up and stretch ur legs and walk a little...that's also nice getting dressed.

I voted gray. Gray can blend in all seasons (and in urban environments) to an extent. Green may stick out more in the winter/urban. If you're a new prepper, check out gray man technique

Hammock all day every day. I sleep in one every night.

But to answer your question, I would go with the gray. I would also go on Amazon and buy some fish netting and paracord. Put paracord tie downs on the netting in a 1’ x 1’ pattern and use them to tie whatever local vegetation is available where you decide to set up.

What do you do with a grey hammok when thete are no trees.
You can go to the ground. The netted hammock works, using hiking poles etc. to hold the net off your face. Use the tarp if needed. Or you use a a free-standing stand ,I think they are called turtle dog stands.
