Who uses a ring of steps?

I started out using a ros out of the gate over a decade ago befor platforms where even sold and there is not much to say except they make a platform better ,use 2 just inches apart for each foots cumfort,or you can walk around a tree which i dont do.

I agree with most or all of what John Eberhart says about them. He has several videos on them on youtube.
John says all there is to say about setting up and if you are doing it much different you are doing it wrong.especialy when it comes to the sit or lean angles.he of course walks around trees which may be nessasary hunting between feilds and in the middle of other open timber patches

I used a predator xl the past few years and this past year got 6 bullman platform steps to try for light and fast hunts. I put them on an ocb strap to be light, quiet, and quicker to deploy.

I found that I preferred them to the platform for most hunts. Instead of spinning around in the platform, I had to learn to walk around the tree but that actually seems stealthier.

The ocb strap got ditched pretty quickly. I found I could get the ratchet that much tighter and felt more stable.

If I was going for an all day sit I’d probably still take the platform but it’s so nice to sling the ros over my shoulder like a bandolier and go

I spent a week out of state hunting Ky last year. I took my platform out one time only because those platform steps from Bullman are so comfortable I could easily spend all day on them so my platform stayed in the truck. I’ve always been a ROS guy for short hunts (4 hours or less) but with the new Bullman steps platforms might be a complete thing of the past for me (with the possible exception of the new hyper lite platform that trophyline is dropping this summer)
Anyone else have this experience with Bullman Ros? Looking into going to a Ros this year

I’ve gone back and forth on ROS only vs ROS with a platform. Personally I don’t like ROS only unless it’s a 30 min or less hunt. Really hard (IMO) to get rid of a good surface to plant your boots comfortably for a longer sit. The solution I found that works best/is most comfortable for me is the pursuit 2 platform. For the size, stability, light weight, ankle comfort, grip, functionality and price compared to other platforms, I think it’s hard to beat. I will sometimes supplement it with an ROS, which is an awesome combo I think. I use the TreeHopper steps. Not the smallest but they’re my favorite. Again it’s that fine line between small/packable and stability/functionality.

Also are you referring to the Bullman platform ROS for saddle hunting or one of their other steps?

I don’t have any experience with the Bullman steps but hunted for years on a TreeHopper ring of steps. There are some some who probably disagree but the general consensus has always seemed like the tree hopper steps are easier to get tight/stable. A lot of people end up using a ratchet strap with the bullman steps. I have no problem getting the tree hopper steps solid with a OCB. Plus they nest together which makes it easier to pack them.

I find it hard to get tree hopper ros nested for storage(strap is too thick), but completely agree with you about stability on tree.

I’ve never used the treehopper strap. I have two sets with an EWO strap and they nest well.

I’m with you. Pursuit platform is hard to beat

First I feel a ratchet strap is the way to go with this platform if you’re concerned about the platform moving (and I am). If you put the strap towards the top rounded edge in the feed through of the platform, then ratchet it down until it’s really tight. Then ratchet it 1 more click past the point you feel like it should be. Then step up onto the platform from your stick and put your foot to the base of the platform up against the tree and give it a quick thump down with your body weight. Once you do this, the platform should be completely solid under weight. The v2 platform is robust enough that it shouldn’t flex almost at all and really doesn’t flex under the tension of the ratchet strap.

ok I see there is a version 2 and they put more reinforcements and that vertical piece on it looks a little more stable enough to be ok with i guess. I just wish they could of found a way to make the teeth metal or a few rows of metal inserts.

Stabilty on the tree is over rated.creates a false sence of security.dudes get a platform or stick rock solid then slip off of it and depend on their tether only....nothing wrong with a mushy step.....the ground was mushy on the walk in.just sayin.some people need 2 bridges ,2 tethers,or a friction hitch to back up thier madrock or gri gri ,when in fact they only need the friction hitch...some people are scared of the easter bunny.but i piss on an electric fence every day and i can tell you its a wives tail to beleive it will shock your balls off.gunna go do it right now ....marry irish day
