Who uses the notch v3 quickly?

I climbed personally with Kevin before the release of the Ropewrench at my place. I made a couple of lignum vitae wooden versions from diagrams from a guy at Rope and knot supply after taking a splicing class. I love the Roperunner for its compact size and easy tending. Of course the ride down is very smooth and predictable.

Thats a wood that doesnt get much discussion. Makes a hammer of a duck call for a wood call.
 
They made bearings for drive shafts for naval vessels when I was in. It smells very good when working with it and has self lubricating properties as well.
 
I only have 42 feet of canyon elite 9 mm I was thinking the Alpine would make the notch. Quickie cinch flatter on the tree And I could untie it easier,if I wanted to use something else like a scaffold knot might tend to slip more. Just a guess I don’t know. Still trying to learn and find the right balance. I haven’t been up in the tree with a saddle yet the weather has been kind of crappy still trying to figure out the ascending part. I getting a 2TC system from cgm with in a week.
 
Yea you can do that too. Just leave sufficient tail like you already said

You can also tie a figure of 8 and run the rope through. Many ways to skin the cat. Practice on the ground first and start low and slow

That was the first thing I thought of too when I saw it. Also makes a dynamite Canada goose call in all configurations (flute, long reed, short reed, hybrid, etc...)

Sorry, I lost track of this thread. I like mine way better than the options I've tried. I use a tether locker with it, no knots. I climb up using a lineman's rope, then use my rappel rope as my tether with this on it. I've never had any issues with it and it's much quicker and easier to get connected than a quick link. I shot 6 deer and a coyote last year while using using it, so noise isn't an issue, at least not for me.

so you have a sewn eye on your tether rope? I just bought rope from ewo with a sewn eye but it is the smaller loop so having a issue getting that notch v3 quickie in the rope it is very tight I am trying to stretch the loop so i can slide it in. I can barely can get the carabiner in the eye. So I am trying to stretch it with a carabiner and a screw driver wedged in and hopefully over night it will stretch enough to get the quicky to fit.

I got it in took a little he man strength. getting closer to the practice stage. just waiting on my bullman ros and I can see if I like saddle hunting.

Yep. I do. Has no issues getting through the loop.
 
ok I have tried the notch v3 quicky I don't think I like it.seems a little heavy . I have a ohm tether locker. seams to pop off but I think it might be user error. I think I have to give it more of a chance. I am waiting for a cpl more items. I tried using a figure 8 as a ascender I am not coordinated to this method only seen it done. I am getting the madrock safe guard and will be backing it up on top. I think I will be using the jrb cinch method looks more dependable and I think I feel more comfortable. I have a lot of work to do and practice low and slow.

I use a Grigri. I have a madrock but I’m not a fan. Basically my advice to you is to mess around with your system a bit. Match it to your “style” I think it’s different for everyone.

I’m not sure if you plan to come to the Michigan meet up, but I’ll be there and I’d be happy to let you try my stuff out.

I plan on it need to get it dialed in. I sort of think I need to get into srt but still looking for options. I got a 2 tc system from CGM and thinking using a madrock with back up on top might do it for me. This is getting a little bit expensive lol.
 
so what don't you like about the safe guard and how is the gri gri better? do you have the grigri +?

The madrock was to jerky while I was descending, and got even worse if the rope was damp or frozen.
I have a Grigri, but my buddy has the plus. Both of them are much smoother of a descent than the madrock.

Used properly, the device doesn't so much control your rate of rappel with assisted belay devices, your brake hand does. I cringe at the thought of you not even using a brake hand but it seems to me with these sorts of feedback, that may be the case. Definitely a practice I would recommend getting a handle on, for safety purposes absolutely, but I aso think you'll enjoy the rappel more with proper technique regardless of the particular device you choose.

I appreciate your concern for my safety(I don't mean this sarcastically either). I have been trained on how to properly rappel (both in the Marine Corps and PD I currently work for, which I would guess is adequate for saddle hunting). I probably described it poorly. I was not speaking of the rate of descent. I was speaking of the quality of the descent. In other words the difference in smoothly descending. When I use the madrock it's like driving over a rumble strip (slight exaggeration for effect).
