Why can’t I use a Ropeman 1 as my primary stop on tether?

I use a kleimheist . Less metal, quieter, easily adjustable with one hand, releasable under weight.
I think the ropeman is much easier to adjust but in the tether case I’d only go with a Prussik, and only on how the bite of the ropeman 1 could affect the rope core. I’d be highly suspicious that over time loading that in the same or similar spot will degrade the core of the rope and reduce its weight. That being said, I’d call that life safety rope and replace it every 7-10 years. I’ve also stuck a prussik before with tensioned lines, but similar forces may exceed the kn rating of a ropeman anyways. Just my two cents.

Ok I get it people are concerned about a fall. I use a XOP climber seat without a lineman’s belt only tether. I run my tether slack while advancing it. I have no backup. I use smaller than usual tether 8mm with Kong Duck instead of ropeman 1. It is much safer than a lineman’s belt because of being tied off. I climbed between 30 and 35 trees in Aug. and slipped a few times tether caught me. I’m 63 in three weeks. If your going to worry about something worry about who is going to hit you while driving to hunting spot because you have a much better chance of getting killed in your car than you do the ascender failing using it the way we do. Just my opinion nothing else.

I’ve got the solution for those of you concerned with the safety of ropes and ascenders....
You could use this system... it’s heavy as all get out, noisy too, but definitely no risk of failure.

I agree with this 100%. The importance of this conversation is that people understand what their gear is/or is not designed for and what its limitations are. As many people have noted. Put a correct stopper knot on the tail end and use it as a static tether.
What is ya'lls "preferred"stopper knot?

Lol, I use the old car bit on my wife at least once a week.

What is the weight on that? Do I need to quiet it with stealth strips? Some of the edges look pointy and may need sanding or filing. What kinda Kn we talkin? Can I pack it in my game winner pack?
