Why Ropeman and not these?

I was looking at the Micro Traxion or the Roll N Lock. I do like the Ropeman 1, but they are hard to find and I read mixed reviews. Also, what’s the difference in the Ropeman 1 colors, nothing?

Thanks for the feedback.

A lot of the sites I have looked at, including Amazon, the Ropeman 1 are on backorder. REI has the blue in-stock as it looks, but I have read online where people ask what the differences are other than color and there seems to be conflicting stories about what may be different.

I dont think there is any difference between orange and blue. Just color preference.

I ordered a blue from REI recently and it works just fine. Never owned an orange but I can’t imagine that it works any different.

I would say the biggest difference is the ropeman is lighter than most options and the way the rope pinches against the carabiner keeps it quiet.

I'm new to saddle hunting but have done quite a bit of research. As others mentioned, the Ropeman 1 became popular mainly because of price point. But keep the rope diameter you're using in mind. I believe Ropeman 1 is rated for down to 10mm. If you're using some of the smaller diameter rope (l use Sterling Oplux 8mm for tether) then it may not grab. Also read it may not grab as well on smoother sheathed lines (Ropeman 2 does not have this issue - more aggressive teeth). I went with the Kong Duck which is rated 8-13mm. Some say Kong Duck may be noisier if used on lineman because carabiner is fed through metal and on Ropeman it is pinched. I don't think that is much of an issue as when climbing there is tension on the lineman when hanging steps/working and when up the tree lineman will come off once tethered in.

Just my two cents based on my set up and info I've read. Good luck this season!

Look at the teeth on the traxion, compare it to the ropeman teeth. read its intended use on the petzl site. Look at the strength ratings. compare. That traxion is mostly designed as a process capture in z-drags and for emergency purposes. You're going to shred your rope using it in the same 24" on your tether regularly. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE people. do your research.

I have a ropeman one, ropeman 2, and the ct rollnlock. Currently the one is not being used because I'm running 8mm oplux. But even if the specs matched I really like the ct rollnlock. I could weigh it but I'm guessing its lighter than the ropeman.

I use a Tibloc for my LB. Works great and is very light.
