• The SH Membership has gone live. Only SH Members have access to post in the classifieds. All members can view the classifieds. Starting in 2020 only SH Members will be admitted to the annual hunting contest. Current members will need to follow these steps to upgrade: 1. Click on your username 2. Click on Account upgrades 3. Choose SH Member and purchase.

The classifieds will be viewable to non members. They will not be able to post a reply or create a thread in the classifieds, but they will be able to see the messages so that they can send a PM to the seller.

The information on this site has probably saved my life at least 3x (maybe more) when I was new to saddles, by either bringing to light something I should have been doing and wasn't, or something I shouldn't have been doing, and was...

@redsquirrel - You don't have to justify anything to anybody. The fact that folks complained at all is absurd to me...

I'm expecting it to be much much less than anything anyone has thrown out there based off the analytics I've been tracking. Not all members are active users and not all active users will upgrade.
4. Membership was chosen because it is a way to increase the odds that the expenses of the site are covered. People often say they will do things and then they don't actually do it. I've experienced this many times on this site and if this were to happen with a donate option I'd still be in the red. After this goes live, I will be adding a donation option as well for those who wish to contribute but not to join. It's there if you want to, and you can ignore it if you want.
5. I have no interest in having sponsors for the site. To me, sponsors mean bias and the lack of transparency. I want you to come here and feel like the information you receive is open and honest. I think we all know that the past year has been tough on this site with all the vendors coming into the market. I don't know how I will adapt going forward, but if I decide to do anything with vendors at some point this site will be providing them a service and no more.

I agree with your points especially number 5...I am more than willing to pay than to have to deal with any form of censorship due to sponsors investing in the site.

Besides all that, this site has provided me info on saddle hunting that would have taken years, if ever, to learn on my own....You have done a great job with the site Red and I think membership is a logical next step in its evolution and also for us to help offset the costs is a very reasonable thing.

And if I understand the banner with the explanation of the new membership fee, anyone can still access the site for free to post and view threads as they always have - the 'fee' is just for selling in the classifieds and also to be a part of the deer contest.

For me personally, I'm glad I now have a way to help support the site in some financial manner and hopefully insure saddlehunter.com will be going strong for many years to come....
 
$15 is the price of a movie,,,this site is a year round source of entertainment and knowledge sharing.Not even a second thought about it.
 
I personally can’t wait to have the ability to contribute to Red, the maintenance of this site and the other admins. This site has been an absolute revolution for me over the past few years and the service provided is well worth the small ask. Keep up the excellent work everybody.
