Anyone who has the wild edge steps find the zipper ridiculously hard to use? I get halfway and it just won't go without taking gloves off, laying the bag on the ground and really yanking on it.

Does it get easier or is there anyway to make it easier.

I added a pull aid using paracord. Helps, but still tough.

Mine is the same way. I assumed it was because I wrapped my steps with CamoForm tape so they take up a bit more space. I’m gonna try the pull tab idea.

I was thinking of soaking it in cold water hoping it would losen up a bit. I will try adding something to the zipper as well. Thanks guys.

My WE Bag busted the stitching along the zipper because it was so tight. I have rigged up my predator platform with gear ties to hold my steps. Used it like this on a couple hunts now. Seems to work ok. I'll probably diy a cover to go over this to keep it from tearing up the inside of my pack. I'll just carry it over the shoulder for now.

Get a grease pen from an art store and run it up and down the teeth of the zipper. We used to do this on new flight suits when the zippers were finicky. Should lube it up pretty good. You can use chapstick in a pinch, but it doesn't last as long.

I tried bow string wax and it seems to help a bit. It probably won't last long so I will give the grease pen a shot. Thanks

That looks sweet!

mine is an original bag from when Jim was selling them like a decade ago (or more) and its still tight. I take the bag off at the tree, lay it on the ground and unzip all the way...pull all the rope out the top, then zip up about halfway, then sling the bag back on...

post season I may buy a few more steps and a larger bag because I'm loving using 2 steps as a platform, with a 3rd at head height for a handle and a bow hanger.

I've also kept a step at head height. Haven't quite perfected my bow holder, what are you doing to incorporate the step as a bow holder?

I took one of those 2 section folding screw in bow hooks, cut the screw off with an angle grinder, then drilled a whole through the square tubing and slid an old XX75 shaft section (about a half inch wider than the Stepp) through the hole. basically 'reverse engineered' the Wild Edge bow holder. then coated that whole thing with flexseal. :) I'll take a pic the next time I'm out

Here, you can kind of see it. The XX75 shaft slips in between the rope and stands off. I slide the left side in. Then the right.20181114_132102.jpg

I think I may shorten the other arm as well. it kinda sticks out from the tree a little too far for my liking. also...if you have a heavy bow, you may need something a little more stout than an xx75 shaft.

Looks pretty slick! Thanks for sharing. If you think about it next time you are out please snap some more pictures. I have the same style bow holder right now and would definitely consider doing something like this.

For your zipper, go to the hardware store and look for a spray with teflon PTFE, spray some on a paper towel and pull the zipper down and rub the teeth with the paper towel. I learned that a the garage door guys use this product.

@Patriot38 pulled my phone out to upload the photos and had an 8 pointer walk in on me. Doh. And it won't let me insert them cause it says they're too large. Be back I. A few

@Patriot38 had to wait til I could get to a pc. sorry for the delay. my rev.eng. steppladder bow hook. I have been putting the head height stepp off to my left and hanging the bow there....if I keep doing that I may shorten the hook section to the same length as the T section. if I decide to keep the stepp right in the middle I'll leave the length as is so I can turn the hook section to the left.

Awesome, thanks for the pictures. Looks like a pretty good system. I'm a big fan of having that extra step to hook things to. I'll definitely be doing something similar

For hanging my pack, I take the hook end of a tree stand strap that had dry rotted, leaving about 18 inches of strap on the hook and un-cam the bow hanger Stepp, and slide the strap between the tree and the Stepp rope. Once cammed back over it isn't gonna move but I put a stopper knot on the end any way. Then pull up my pack and bow, pack goes on the hook, bow on the bow hook.
