Wild Edge Step MOD

Wondering if anyone has done a mod to the rope on the Wild Edge steps that makes it easier to tie and remove.

Since I already have the steps, I'm considering switching to a 2-step climbing method and rappelling for coming down. I like the idea of using 2 steps (plus a ladder aider) for climbing. It would allow me to reach hunting height in 3 moves.
- set the first step at 6.5' - 7'
- attach and climb the ladder
- set step #2 at the next 6.5' - 7' height
- sit back in the saddle and grab step #1

The challenge, unlike the single STICK method, is being able to release step #1 easily. You have to un-cam, then un-tie it - a bit tedious. I thought about trying to use a 9mm rope and a Ropeman 1 in place of the stock rope. Releasing the Ropeman 1 with the step cam'd is definitely much easier, but wondering if any of you creative peeps have another or better idea.

Again, the main reason for using the steps is 1) I have, and have been using the steps for a couple years, and 2) I like the idea of being able to stand on step #1 reach up 6.5' - 7' to set the 2nd step, which puts me at 20' - 23' hunting height in 3 moves.

Sounds like the primal steps would work well for your use as they have a cam buckle strap on them allowing for ease of release without having to un cam the step. Just my $.02

I'm getting used to WE steps with Knaider and Swaider... going pretty well so far... as others have said.. bit of a learning curve with them but I'll be practicing in the next year and probably going with a long line to repell on the way down. Just untie 3 or 4 steps on the way down...

I've been using 4 steps with aider/swaider for the last 2 years and looking to lighten it up even more. I really like the steps, but like I said in the initial post, a bit of a pain to untie when hanging and trying to climb.

I'm interested to listen in.

I've been using a 3 step ladder aider, knaider and 3 WE steps. I set the first step at 6-7' attach the aider climb up the ladder aider, hook the knaider then remove the ladder aider. Then I step on top of the WE step and set my next step 6-7' above me, then repeat with aider/knaider. Sometimes I only use 2 WE steps, sometimes 3. Either way, it just seemed more simple to carry 3 steps then fiddle around trying to remove my first step.

I'm interested in trying this - can you post a picture of your step with ladder aider attached? I'm not getting why the knaider is needed/useful. I use a k/s now with 4 or 5 steps, and like the idea of dropping a step but keeping the height using the ladder aider.

I used the tie rope supplied to splice into a loop. Attached a quick release strap on one side and left the hook on the other end of the strap to hook onto the loop. Reach around, hook, pull almost tight and set the step. Just have to be careful on noise with the release and hook.
