Wild edge stepp defective?

Decided to grab a single wild edge step to use as a platform. It came in the mail today but I was looking at it and noticed this is how the bottom point that butts against the tree looks.

Is this defective or how they come?

not in my experience. Some are like that, some are not. That does allow any moisture that may be in there to drain.

As stated above, they are designed that way to allow water to drain. I also use a compressor and shoot air into that hole to help get the bark plugs out.
