How I get a level WE platform:
The order I set them is 2 o’clock, 10 o’clock then 6 o’clock. Note I have the splice end on the left side of step and knot on the right.
Tie the first one in front of you and find the right tension. Un cam and slide it to the 2 o’clock position. Cam down. Give it a good nudge to make sure it’s tight.
With stepp #2 thread its rope above the rope and below the stand off of #1 (knot side), then pass the rope below the rope and above the V (splice side). Tie #2 in front of you to find the correct tension. Then uncam and slide to 10 o’clock and cam down. Give it a good nudge to make sure it is tight.
Pass #3’s rope around the tree letting it fall over the standoffs of #1 and #2. Tie and cam down at 6 o’clock. Give it a good nudge to make sure it is tight.
In all cases, make sure no stepp is crushing another’s rope.
One should definitely strive for the best cam they can get but believe it or not there is more margin for error in a WE platform setup than when setting one for climbing. Seems like the ropes help to support the other Stepps. Since a lot/most of your weight is on the saddle that helps too. I’ve had a little shifting sometimes but not so bad that I couldn’t deal with it.
