Im hunting a large marsh and was wondering, will deer walk through freezing water and thin ice or once it starts freezing will they take an alternate route

I’ve seen both doe and bucks walk thru swamp areas, that were frozen over. I’ve heard them crunch thru an entire frozen area over 100 yards long

Yes they will. I see them walk thru the frozen river and thin ice all the time on a property i hunt late season. I dont think they get cold on they're lower legs. Less nerves than us Id guess.

Deer will do just about anything to avoid getting eaten. Their feet might get cold. They might know their feet are cold. But it is highly unlikely they are wondering to themselves how much better their lives would be if they were hanging out at the beach. Because all they know is "survive today", their perspective is a little different.

What I meant to say was yes, deer will walk through freezing cold water, and thin ice, if necessary. Hunting pressure, terrain, other predators, a hot doe, many things determine if it is necessary.

I would guess it would depend on where you are hunting. In eastern VA when the tidal marshes would freeze (pretty rare for us) it was better than any rut I've hunted. Huge deer that none of us had seen before were all over the place.
