This my is my question what if i am using the one stick climbing method and for whatever reason my climbing stick falls the ground and my cellphone battery is dead (i am just using this for and example). From my information i was told if you hang from a tree from a tree for a long period of time it cuts circulation from legs and could eventually kill you.

1 first question how would i use a suspension relief strap with my tree saddle how i hook it?
2 ) how you you recommend climbing down the tree?

I think the cutting of circ. is from a harness that connects you to a vertical hang, the saddle is more horz.. BUT I'm no expert about this.

Yeah I think in the saddle you wouldn’t have to worry about cutting off circulation.

You would have to worry about getting down though lol. Taking some rappelling gear would take care of that.

I think most guys doing the one stick tether the stick to themselves or the saddle so you don’t have to worry about losing it.

If you didn't have repelling gear then maybe if you were super careful I could see working your way down the tree by careful positioning of the tether and linemans belt. Slide the linemans down a foot, put pressure on it and slide the tether down a foot, then slack the linemans and slide it a foot, etc

I carry this second tether with foot loops in my pack as a last resort to work my way down the tree.

Don't know why it's rotated like that.

If you have a suspension relief stap, you should be able to use it to gerth hitch it to the tree to one stap down.

I don’t think suspension trauma would be an issue with a saddle. With a harness all the pressure is on the leg straps cutting off circulation to the legs.

What do you stand on while hunting? If you have a platform or ring of steps then just use it instead of the dropped stick to inch your way down one-stick style. Or rig a simple foot loop with your lineman's belt and girth it to the tree to use in combo with your tether. There are other options as well. Even your gear strap or pull-up cord might be useful if it's long and strong enough. Best to carry at least one form of backup for descending in case you lose your stick, and you might already have it with you. If not then add a small length of rope, amsteel, webbing, or whatever to your pack. It's worth the small weight/bulk penalty.

You could also carry a single screw-in step and work your way down with that and your tether.

Emrah

Another idea, tie a length of paracord to the stick and clip the other end to you while using. It's one more thing to potentially get wrapped around in but atleast you don't lose it if dropped. Another idea, carry a grappling hook in you dump pouch to recover it.

I am currently in a tree I one sticked up. I rappel out of the tree. I use my rappel line as my tether with the excess rope stored in a pouch on my saddle until it’s time to get down. I don’t tie my stick to me. If I happened to drop it I would just rappel down an get it.

What rappel device do you use? Do you have to do anything to switch over from climb mode to rappel mode, like stand up on something to unload the tether line in order to install the device? Or do you just climb and hunt with it on all the time?

You ever try using the second tether as a climbing method? I’m hoping to rig something like this up to try this off season...

I did and did not find it satisfactory. I can try to find the thread and link to it if you are interested.

I got all my ideas from @Squirrels I use a madrock safe guard use it while climbing and while hunting. I have that backed up with a Beal Jammie tied in an auto block connected to a lineman’s loop. To repel I don’t have to load the line at all. Drop the rest of the rope. Pull the lever on the madrock and use the auto block to control the rate of dissent. Sounds way complicated but it’s super easy.

I managed to convert you to one sticking full time I think. The ideas and equipment weren’t my idea. @ckossuth reeled me in. I’m somewhat convinced that successful and pleasurable one sticking is achieved through a proper setup in terms of equipment. It can be done more than one way but there are some things that make all the difference in the world.

Yes you have. Must haves that got me over the hump.

2 step aider on my stick. Roughly 22” steps.
Rappelling down
Cam cleat to attach the stick

And thank you @ckossuth
