XOP Climber seat as climber and platform?

Think I found my solution for stirrups on my hand climber. Had some big static rope in the garage. Will replace with smaller rope later.

Just a water knot on one end and a prusik knot on the other side of platform. Prusik cinches the rope to the feet. No metal or plastic components to make noise.

On my LW climber I hook my toes under the side bars, obviously you can't do that on a hand climber. The other thing I do is a bungee behind my feet. It really allows me to point the stand down as needed, making climbing easier. Might be worth looking into that for these hand climbers. If you can't tilt enough to get clearance of the hoop, its gonna snag a lot.

Why do you have to get it at head height at first? Also, how does the standable space compare to the xop platforms with the ear that stick off. I use the diy xop and do t want to loose too much foot room.

well the good news is we are all different and there are lots of options. I have an old man climber with the rubber covered cable(or something inside) and it squeeks in the cold. I have a steel summit climber and a LW climber. Been so long since I used the summit, I cant remember if it climbs better, but dont have any real complaints about the LW belt other than how hard it is to cam it in the cold weather. I need to find an xop and test, thats all there is to it. lol

You can’t tell the difference in the XOP and the LW other than the stiffness in the Cams.
Same size and shape.
I have both that’s the only difference I’ve found.

I like the bungee behind the feet idea

I was thinking about adding a bungee but someone mentioned that could be noisy, I will still probably play around with it to figure it out.

Is "water knot" the same as figure 8 on a bite?

No. Can be used similarly but the fig8 is more easily untied after being weighted down.

The water knot is nice on webbing.

My app doesn’t have the water knot with a loop but you can see the different structure of the two knots

The higher you set it initially the less likely you are to have to tighten the belt on the way up the tree because the flair at the base of the tree is typically more pronounced and as you go up they tamper more gradually, typically not always. I believe that the climber seat is wider but I'm not sure by how much.

Oh ya. I just start my climbers at a good upward angle to compensate for bole tamper.

If you try that with this platform it won’t climb.

Wonder why its different than the LW sit n climb? I crank the base up high enough to hit the cross bar on the tree. Its steep enough that the last step or two coming down, I'm grabbing the back of the platform to help angle the belt down.

Ernie was using my hand climber at Saddlepalooza and wondered same thing. On the platform he could get his feet under the frame and wiggle it back and forth and start up the tree. With the hand Climber seat no frame and no wiggle.
That’s why the Summit cable mod is so cool it won’t stick like the belt.

Has someone successfully converted a xop seat to summit cable? I am thinking about emailing summit and just letting them know about the demand for a hand climber with their cable. Will be in vein but man this would be it for me. I am so sick of the helium sticks and having to cam set my diy xop platform to the point I stopped hunting this season with over 60 days left because it all makes to much noise and too much work to have an effective hunt. I am put out with all the gear saddle hunting seems to require.

Have you done this mod yet @bongo? If so how is it??

I'm new to this method, but just practicing in the yard, the lone wolf belt gets caught up on the rougher barked trees

I have not! But the only reason I haven’t is I’m on an Offshore Supply Vessel in the Med and won’t be back for a month or two.
When I get home it will be one of my first projects!
I have been trying to figure out how to create this mod and @FayetteKong did it and was cool enough to share.
It will be a winner I’m sure.
