Yotes for Dummies

Setup downwind or will they approach the pile from downwind and wind me?
I try to set up more to the side of down wind. If it’s blowing out of the north east, I set up more westerly than south. In my experience with coyotes and hog they aren’t as fearful of scents as deer are. More often than not I see them come from straight down wind. So if I’m set up 20 yards west, my scent might not get to the travel lane. Of course I’ve been busted before but that’s usually after the same spot a few nights in a row. Rarely is it a problem on the first night. They are predators by nature and many times at least here they interact in places where humans frequent. We have issues with them running up into peoples yards and snatching cats and small dogs. They are a non native animal here so the regs are very lenient too

now that sounds fun! What time of night you set up? How much bait, just scraps or a heaping bucket pile?

does the type of call matter or just any prey or coyote vocalization will work?
Just scraps. I let it sit out and get smelly too. I like the fox pro kitten call. Lol for some reason they really seem to run to cat calls and kitten calls. I’ve heard some guys use squirrel or raccoon squalers too. But I like the kitten calls

I have not used thermal, but my best hunts have been:
-Right at sunrise or sunset
-Using a rabbit rabbit call (mouth or foxpro). It is nice to be able to set up away from the fox pro with a remote.
-Setting up downwind edges of fields or open bottoms. A good entrance is key.
-Being able to hit a bunch of spots within a 5-10 minute drive of each other around the prime times mentioned above
