Your Favorite Part...

I'm not gonna say favorite... just the things I tend to really enjoy about hunting in no particular order:

I enjoy that no matter what, every time out there is different in some way. Its like Christmas morning every time. You never know what adventure will unfold... even in the same area.

I also like the challenge of trying to determine the best place to set up given all the typical hunt scenarios. In the end, I find that trying to be scientific leaves out so many important elements. Hunting is an art and a science. I want to have the science down cold but the art and intuition seem to constantly battle that in my mind. In the end, its the little voice that typically helps me the most. I know that sounds crazy and I've talked about this before but.... the Native Americans had this intuition too. We need to get into the spirit of the hunt. Do you give thanks for the harvest after? I think that is important too.

Also, I really enjoy sitting in the dark in the morning and watching/listening to the woods wake up. There is nothing more peaceful and stress relieving to me. Watching every little critter start its morning routine while fog of my breath rolls up my face. Then, a twig breaks, game on...

^^^^^This has always been my favorite part ... sitting quietly in the pre-dawn, listening and observing as the woods come to life ... my avatar is a photo from one of my favorite trees on a crisp Fall morning as the sun just began to rise ... such a peaceful and enjoyable time to be in the woods!

I am soo over summer. This year summer went from third place in my seasons ratings to last. I prefer winter.
So I love hunting for the temps generally, the quiet.and solitude and watching nature without any being knowing I am there(hopefully).
I love it for the rewards, experience and joy and meat. I don't hate butchering,I look at it as part of the deal. I can do a better job than most deer butchering places because I take my time.
I love off season because it gives me the anticipation of opening day.

1. My favorite time spent with my dad is hunting
2. My favorite time spent with friends is hunting
3. Flip side - being alone
4. Disconnecting from the electronic world - even though I use my phone (OnX, weather, etc). I work is sales so its nice to shut off all notifications and get away from complaining customers
5. See nature in its purest form
6. I am addicted to that heart thumping time when deer/turkeys are approaching. That is way better than walking up to the animal after I shot it

I’ve been trying to narrow down what I love most about this. It’s really hard to narrow down.

I have to admit the gear is part of the fun for me, especially in the off season. Buying and trying gear and if I don’t like it as much, then selling and trying something else is really fun for me. Though it’s not great for my wallet and I’ve been gradually trying to narrow down what I like and stick with it. I’m getting there.

Sort of attached to the off season gear thing is the anticipation for the season coming up. The buying and trying gear really keeps the anticipation up for me. Though I know I would still be there mentally anyway if I wasn’t buying and trying.

Then actually hunting, it is the sense of adventure I get and the anticipation of anything happening is awesome. Then going at my own speed and no one around to have to answer to or distract is so peaceful. Combine that with the connection to nature I have and being able to soak it all in while out in the tree is just priceless. It really is a reset button for the soul.

Combine all that together and you pretty much have me and how I am year round.

Sitting on buckets and wearing Hawaiian shirts is pretty fun too. I probably shouldn't be doing these things if I wanted to increase my odds..... believe me I need all the help/luck i can get.....but it is fun taking on the challenge some weirdo Tennessee/Alabama guys throw out there just to prove wrong the main stream. Companionship with peeps u probably never met... Magic of interwebs and SH

The part about hunting that isn't actually abount hunting?

The sights, definitely the sights. Looking over a field from a tree in the late afternoon as the sun sets the sky and field ablaze with oranges and reds. Looking over my shoulder up a hill to see a forest of gold and yellows when the leaves change. Perched on the side of a mountain in the dark timber with the deep green and black. Going to and seeing the wild places that I'd otherwise have no worldly reason being there if I wasn't a hunter. The list goes on and on. I like to take snapshots of those moments and stash them away in my memory.

If your life really does flash before your eyes at the end, I'd like to revisit those memories in my final moments.

Woods poos are pretty satisfying

Never forget the wet wipes! Go in with two socks come out with one! My favorite is a fresh snow fall while sitting in the stand. It’s as if time slows and nature stands still and all I can think is thanking god for granting me the opportunity to live another day and hunt.

U crazy....undieroos are much more expendable than socks

I love the dichotomy of working my a$$ off to find public land deer, hike all my gear a mile into the woods, drag all that gear up a tree only just to wait confidently for hours. Working so hard to wait is so satisfying for some reason. I think it takes kind of a weird personality to enjoy hunting.

Agree. . . in a pinch (or in case of of one :tearsofjoy: ) I'll go commando before I go sockless.
Been there, done that. Beware of a high fiber diet the night before you are out in the field. I was able to find a branch I could hold onto while my rear end hung out over the small creek draw holding me out far enough so the plops wouldn't run down my legs and into my boots. (Thems the squirts!!!) Yeah, my underwear were buried were they had fallen. No way a little bit of toilet paper was going to clean that job.

This is it for me. When non-hunters talk to me about hunting, I always tell them to just go do this. I think its something everyone should experience.

This is the exact reason why I always have a healthy supply of unscented baby wipes in my pack. Sandpaper in ones asscrack because you didn't have the material to do the job right is the worst.

I love just seeing things, we as hunters, probably only see in nature. Being part of it with out being noticed.

I once watched a baby bird fall out the nest about 20 yards from me & was flopping around. I thought, oh
man it didn't fly. Maybe it's hurt or just sick. I sat & wondered if the mom would try & help or what might
happen. As I watched the wet looking little thing try & start moving, & flapping its wings, a little fork horn
started making his way toward us. He was eating mushrooms & jumping & bucking around being playful
for no good reason beside he could. Goofy little fella. When he got close he saw the baby bird & started
sniffing it. I was thinking, man this is so cool to watch. He has no idea I'm sitting here watching. Finally after
a few minutes of him watching the bird, he put his head down & licked it & immediately lifted his head,
shaking it for a second. Then......he put his head back down again & ATE it! I could literally hear him crunching
on the thing. I was 110% like wth just happened! I had no idea they'd eat anything like that. Anyway, after he
finished he muddled around a few more minutes playing & randomly jumping around. Then he froze & put
his head up. When he did he let out the loudest fart. I was so loud it even scared him & he took off like a
lighting bolt. Ran a bit & would stop to look back like he was trying to figure out what just happened himself.

You can't make this stuff up. Stuff only we as hunters might randomly see or encounter. Stuff like that I enjoy
more then the kill.
