youth hunting: how young?

Man when my kids wanted to go. I just would go sit. My boy like above is dead serious. My girl. It’s just about saying we went hunting. Barbies, coloring books and snacks. When they want to go. Just go. I’d rather them want to keep going and sacrifice a day or twenty or more.

I believe she said “The dinosaurs are going to come from that direction”
That was sept 2020 when she was 3 1/2. We went on a Sunday around noon stayed for about an hour at a friends pop up blind on a field edge on some small WV public land. Like everyone else said when they’re ready it’s time to go.
Go with no expectations and just have some fun with it and your kids will enjoy outing.

These are her binos her and her sister use when we go exploring. You can see in the photo above she was using the real deal upside down. They've never been able to look through the eyepiece and instead shrink everything by looking through the objective.

I have a 4yr old daughter who is dying to go hunting with me, and i would love to take her, but im worried about several things obviously....i only have public land to hunt so we got some walking to do, will she sit still\quiet long enough?, is she just too young and i need to make her wait a couple more years?

Whats the youngest you guys took youth with you? How did it work out? tips??!

Each person may have their own preferred hunting style, so take that into consideration. You're not taking a 3 year old into a saddle lmao, and probably not elevated in general. For myself, silence is golden, so my son and daughter will not be actually hunting with me until this can be realized for at least a portion of the time. Scouting, tracking, hiking, shed hunting, etc., can and will be kid-friendly! On the other hand; my sister, bekagarris on Instagram; has been hunting with her daughter since infancy... To each their own!

Small game and waterfowl from blinds are made for young hunters where being quiet and still for the whole time are not required.
I'd agree. Don't take a kid deer hunting before you've taken them squirrel hunting, mushroom picking, birdwatching, track casting, or mistletoe gathering a few times first.

Plenty of ways to build memories of the wild places without telling a young, developing mind to sit still and shut up. They've got the rest of their lives to do that.

My dad still tells me to sit still and shut up while we are hunting….

This thread did cause me to order a blind. I asked here on SH about blind recommendations before the season but then drug my feet and never ordered one until yesterday.

I've stumbled across her page before. She's a bada$$ and her kids will be better off for it! Congrats on an awesome sister

If you're ordering for the kids, make sure they'll be able to see out of the windows from whatever chair you have after you get it. My son couldn't so we're just ground blind hunting until I decide on if I want to spend the $$ on an adjustable height chair.

Good point, I may have to put his old booster seat in the chair...
