View attachment 2627 View attachment 2628 Opening day been in the tree since 3 with tons of movement all night. Hopefully something comes through now that it's getting daylight. Weather is 75 degrees with 80% humidity not the best conditions but cant get them from the couch.

I see you could not sleep either lol I was in my kestrel at 420am this morning , lots of animals around me in the dark but nothing come light. I am off for the next ten days , so lots of saddle time to come ! Good luck !

Yeah i was rockin my Kestrel. I always get out the first day and sadly this will be my first opener in 5 seasons that i did not drop one!! Kinda sad but moving forward. Very impressed with the kestrel comfort. The linesmans belt loops and bridge loops are in great places. Very simple for transitions and it shows that this was well thought out!! Good luck to you and all my other saddle brothers out there!!

At least hunting from your kayak you can take a dip and cool off before climbing up. It is really hot here. I read all of these threads about keeping your feet warm. I'm thinking when it gets that cold just wear boots instead of crocs

INSTEAD OF CROCS - are you crazy?? lol.

Yeah I have been watching your videos btw which are really good. I see you sweating like a mad man. It does not look fun!!

Thanks for that. It is sweaty sweaty sweaty.

Since 3??? I might be doing something wrong! Evidence by my experience this morning for sure!

I've had a crappy morning so far, slept through my alarm or shut it off not really sure, walking in late, 0615, I planned to walk in around 0530, is that to late, already getting light out, trouble with pretty much everything, in my haste I rush my xop climb, leave my bow and pack on the ground with nothing tied to it, figured I can use my fancy diy grappling hook you pull em up. Well I get about 15 feet up, xop hand climber is doing pretty well, happen to look down and there are a bunch of small trees that will make grappling my gear impossible, xop hand climb down because my rappel rope is in my pack.

Decide because I'm running out of time, it's almost 7, that I should just climb a set tree close to here, one I set but haven't been in, yup another nightmare, it's a large tree to big for my xop, unless I get above the split, so I ended up srt then switching to my aider, seemed to take forever.

I've been setup for a while now, hoping to see something, at least in a tree right? Hopping for something positive to come out of this!

That is all a bummer for sure. It sounds like you have too much going on! I would pick one climbing method and stick to it for now. That way you will be super comfortable with it! Better to be a master of one trade than a jack of all right now.

Shot a doe tonight. Caught her a little high. It wasn't far so it was a steep angle, I was hoping I caught the top of the close lung but I think I only got 1 lung. I gave her 45 minutes before I started tracking her slowly. Lots of blood on the little trail I got to follow. She only had gone 30 yards in the thick stuff and she got up and hopped off but it didn't sound like very far. She was definitely hurting. It was so thick that we couldn't see each other. I'm hoping that she just layed back down in that thick stuff and dies over night. If she's dead I'll find her. Its so damn hot here though. Normally I'd go back later tonight but this is my management program and I gotta be out by 1/2 after shooting light. I can push that time when I'm tracking by calling in but I can't go back in late. I'll have to wait until first light.

Good luck finding her!! She is probably laid up though and will expire. Looking forward to pics!!

My night went south a coyote wouldn't give up the shot was always behind something or on the move. That bastard will die eventually. Saw two deer thought they would turn towards me but casually walked the other way.

Too warm for me right now. You can cut the air with a knife. Took the rig for a spin last evening. Back on 'em today.

Nice job finding that deer & filling that tag. I have only ever hunted WI &ND. I have always wondered how you Southern hunters deal with the heat with respect to meat preservation. How long can a kill, that hasn't been field dressed, go in warm temps like your talking about before it's too late?
