Figured we could do a scouting report thread. Kinda a post season "live from the stand" replacement.

I've gone out several times in the last month, each from a kayak. I have found that creeks feeding into lakes and rivers can really get me away from the crowds. Just today, me and @Scoutman kayaked in and covered 6 miles of ground and found 7 locations to come back and set trees up. All the while, we found absolutely ZERO human sign. That's dang near impossible to do here in northeast Texas with all the hunters out of the DFW area (7+ million population). Several spots looked like deer and pig superhighways though. This year has really driven home how little sign bucks lay down in this area. Our common rubs are on 3/4"-2" saplings which are very easy to pass up or ignore due to size. Low deer densities are what I think are the cause of this. 2 years of good rains have made for some very healthy deer, and antlers this year show it. Hopefully some sheds will come along with the scouting in the next few weeks.

Great idea for a thread @IkemanTX.

My goal for the year is to have at least 20 new spots set up. I will not complain if I can get more though lol. I am going to hunt even more aggressive next year. I plan on hunting each of these spots one time only unless I feel the spot still has potential and I didn't burn it out. At this point I am up to 13 specific new spots that are ready for me to go in and prep the tree and cut shooting lanes.

Here are a couple photos:

Pulled a cam and found what I think is the 4.5 year old I had narrowed down last summer. He disappeared a couple months before season when someone moved in on the place and trimmed every dang branch that could possibly bump into them, and had lures, estrus, casings and shells littered all over before season even started. Nice to know this guy made it after he skipped town.

Went out yesterday and hiked some private land. Found this.... Not sure the cause of death... To bad someone couldn't have taken him. Haven't put a tape on him but I guessing close to 130".

Also found a couple of heavy used beds I am excited about but of course access is going to be really tough to not get busted.

Too bad you can't tell cause of death, but cool find.
