Best Saddle Hunting Rain Gear

Another reason I'm making a minimalist saddle with polyester webbing. No nylon or cotton insulation to hold water. The little that absorbs will dry quickly.

I thought about the poncho on Rivers West for this, but have not bought or used it..Thought about the heavier weight poncho / capefor some added warmth in the winter also...

I know this is an older post but figured I'd give my 2 cents lol. I've used Rivers West hunting gear. I think they unfortunately went out of business but I've had mine for almost 8 years and it works like a champ. I find myself wearing it more than my standard hunting gear bc it's pretty quiet and very comfortable. I have the pullover jacket that is nice with saddle hunting. I just slide my shoulder straps off then slip the jacket on. As for the saddle I just let it dry overnight

They are still in business.

I looked at that poncho. Seems great except for walking in. If you were going thru a grown up power line, crp field, etc... you will get the area between your boots and poncho soaked. If you walk in anything thick at all, it has extra material to snag and snap twigs.

Plus if it is an off and on rain, you can wear your pants in to stay dry then only layer on a jacket when needed. I can't imagine trying to layer up and down with a poncho from a saddle.

What about the water that travels down the tether? It seems that all the water traveling down the tree gets redirected down the tether and transfers to the hunter at the other end.

Rivers West is still in business. I saw their clothing in Jay's Sporting Goods earlier this week. Their clothing is much different than the older stuff, lighter thinner material.

Oh really wow guys I'm sorry I thought they went out of business. That is great news. I love their stuff great quality stuff the only thing is if it downpours sometimes if will get a little heavy.

I have a camo Poncho/Shelter with the corner tie outs. If it's going to rain hard all day, I'll go home. But if I am waiting out passing rain, the poncho can go on and off while in the saddle. You can cover up your boat/quiver and pack too. You can tie the front corners to your tether if you want to.
