Boat buckle overcenter buckle (OCB, boatbuckle)

Has anyone used this one? Pretty inexpensive...........

http://www.strapworks.com/product_p/mth-ocb-001.htm
I have it. It is big and heavy.
I have 2 issues with it. Heavy duty webbing does not slide thru it well when trying to fine tune the adjustment. But once you adjust it right, The thing can get tighter than you would actually need.
The other issue I've had is that you can lock it so tight to the tree that the release tab is about impossible to release without a tool of some sort...screwdriver or similar.
It's the only OCB that I've tried so I don't know if these issues are common to all of them.

Hey red,
So to create this system I need the buckle from Amazon, one 1" flat hook and some 1" webbing (~5-6')? Thanks
You can buy the flat hook (I recommend the rounded) already sewn on to a length of webbing (your length choice) from strapworks.com
Online you'll have to put the whole belt system in your cart but if you call they will sell you just the strap w/hook which is all you need. Saves a couple bucks. You also get to choose your camo color for your webbing!

It's worked out great so far. I attach it to the molle webbing on the back of my kestrel for walking in and out with a locking D-ring and a small S carabiner.

I got the 7' camo strap with boat buckle and flat hook from customtiedowns.com to use with 6 Silent Approach steps View attachment 6703Tested on the ground, haven't tried in in a tree yet. I think it'll work great. Definitely one of the cheaper ring of steps options out there.

I can't find the one with the f;athook on that site... Is it under the over centre buckle section?

The boat buckle works great ,but one issue I have is sometimes when it's cammed over You can't get ahold of the handle to loosen it ,thinking about drilling a hole in the handle and putting a small rope on it

I just usually pull the loose end of the strap away from the tree to unbuckle it, the smaller buckles don't have much of a handle.

Yeah, I think that’s how they’re designed to work.

Thank you guys,so simple I guess I had a senior moment lol.

I have a web belt that works the same way. When I first got it I thought I’d be struggling every time I went to take it off. Lol

I bought this product from this product link (I changed nothing) After receiving it , I feel pretty dense. I see no way possible to adjust this strap. I looks like I could possibly use it if I found a tree that is exactly 8ft around & I can hook one end to the other. Before I send these back. What am I missing? With both ends of the strap connected it can not be threaded through the buckle. Or I could wrap it around the tree & tie a square knot. Don't get it.

If I am understanding your question, That is just one end of the strap. If it was a ratchet straps that would be the ratchet with the fixed end. You would still need the other side of the strap to thread through the buckel and adjust it.

I was trying to make the transition from a ratchet strap to the over center boat buckle (pictured above) I found this through the link on comment #176. I sounds like lots of folks are using this strap for their step platforms. But I just see no way to adjust this strap. It'll kinda work if the tree is exactly 8ft around. Even the manufacturer couldn't explain how thread the strap through the buckle and adjust it.
