Burned Out

lol.... some of you have no idea thaty my day looks like. with the nearest, decent public land more than one hour away, my day starts at 0300 and finishes (back home, fed, packed and ready for AM hunt at 1000. it usually involves a 1-3 hour dive, 1-2 miles of kayaking often in strong winds, and then anywhere from 50 yard to 2 miles of hiking with eveything.... then a lunch scouting 1-3 miles, set up, evening hunt and then pack out, kayak out, rive home...... I have been eating a ton of nuts and food and still lost 5 pounds. at 55, it takes a toll on the body. I am wore down as much as the bucks chasing this rut. I'll be back in the saddle tomorrow but I am growing tired.....
I'm so sorry, I feel so bad for you dave! What did you do to deserve such penance? Lol.

Hunting here in FL is similar

Up at 2:30-3:00 , long drives, then long walks & at night finally get in bed at 11:00pm

Makes for a long day with little sleep

Lack of sleep definitely catches up but I’ve never killed a deer from the couch do I just keep repeating the cycle when I have days to hunt

I’ve never been able to be off four weeks in a row. I seem to be getting better with age as far as ability to sit long sits. I once thought I wanted to hunt for a living. Then I did four daylight to dark sits in a row and changed my mind in a hurry. It really is about your enjoyment. Our early season is hot. If I get too pumped up during the early season and hunt hard I’m usually burnt out before November gets here. Have fun @DaveT1963 and take a day off when you need it. Also us younger guys feel the effects too we just use family obligations as an excuse.

I hunted pretty hard from October 1st until November 9th. I left on November 11th for a missions trip that took me away for a week, and I've been back for a week now. I have not hunted once this past week. it is totally out of my system right now, complete burnout. I'll be leaving again tomorrow for a few days, and then December 1st ends gun season here in Michigan. I'll re focus my efforts for the December 1st through December 31st late archery season.

At age 60 I get the burn out Dave or at least the tired stuff. But I do think it is supposed to be fun. Having only hunted for 5 years I really don't understand what it is like to be young and hunt.
I do feel pressure this year. I have never been skunked and have no deer yet. I am at the - shoot anything stage. My hunting has not interfered with other priorities... seeing a grandson who has been nearby for 2 months. He is gone back to Alberta now. Helping my mom's recently widowed husband, helping a friend harvest 1000 acres of corn the first week of December and farming my own land mean, I do not hunt daily. I guess this prevents burnout. Lots of other priorities. Now I am sick, so no hunting today. Maybe I will get another 5 hunting days before Christmas.
What drives me now is pride - I don't want to be skunked and eat tag soup. But pride comes before a fall. I did see a really nice buck 5 feet from my truck last night - I just missed hitting him with my truck on the way home from hunting.

Dave keep the fun in hunting and take a day off or even several.

You’re lucky

My season has sucked!

Anytime I could have gone it was pouring
I’ve got three kids in competing sports and I need to be around to take them

The only thing I wait for all year is to try and hunt 10-15 times

This year blew

I gotta admit I’m fried too. Chemo has completely sucked the life outta me and even tho I got a BEAUTIFUL buck this year I have been asked by my buddy for a doe - so I forced myself today. I forced myself last Saturday too and got that buck - which I am calling the Hope Never Dies buck!

Now I’m not telling u about chemo to make anyone feel bad. I took a bunch of hunting days off Bc I was so immunosuppressed that I could’ve gotten sicker than I did - and I was PISSED, full of self pity, etc. We know the drill. But when I could go I did! And as refreshed as I could be. But I’ll tell u I’m fried today!!!

This is a good place to vent sometimes!!!

Awesome buck Jim!!! Now go get some rest good man.

Nothin wrong with taking a day or two off Dave! Heck i'm 31 and don't think I could keep that pace for that many days lol. My season was a pretty tough grind this year and it took 34 days to connect and then did it again on the next sit. Just never know when it will come together. I was starting to let doubt take me out of the game and almost didn't go the morning I shot my Ohio buck. It all changed in ten seconds! Looks like you are getting close, it's only a matter of time ;)

That’s exactly how it happened for me. I’d be in one stand, he’d be by the one I was in the day before. We played cat and mouse for a week. . That 10th day the cat won.

Killer Buck man, congrats!!!!!!!!!

According to my hunt log I have 22 sits in this season. Haven't even laid eyes on a shooter buck yet. Just a parade of small 1.5 yr olds. Finally put a doe down yesterday for the freezer. But man I would have liked it to happen about a month ago lol.

Here in Michigan after Nov. 15th I start to lose a little motivation for sure. I put in a lot of miles early season and when it doesn't play out by then i start to lose a little drive because it gets significantly more difficult to kill ANY deer after Nov. 15th. Probably going to squeeze one more rifle hunt in before our general firearms closes on the 30th and then lay off all my properties a few weeks and do some late season archery when I should have the entire woods to myself.
