Can you build a 1.3 pound stick

funny I still see all pics
I guess I will have to get a kid to show me why it won't open. I did see an earlier picture of a cam on a we step that really interests me. Let us know what you think after further testing. Did you use amsteel too. That would take away all the things I hate about WE steps. What size of cam did you use. A medium.

If it works I will do the @BassBoysLLP method of using We steps.

Well, I did kinda a botched job on cutting down my heliums today. Didn’t have a drill press, so my step holds weren’t drilled dead center... the bit walked on some.
It still functions though.

Cut them down another inch it won't matter. I did that on my first stick. Or just leave it . Don't worry be happy. It will work. I have a drill press and lined the first one up wrong so I re drilled it and shortened it the first time.

Ontariofarmer do you know if Hawk sells just their standoffs? I did a brief search on their site but I didn't see any in their parts section. And if they don't, do you know of any other standoffs that will work on the helium's? I was curious because I was considering cutting my sticks directly in half and making 6 Short sticks. I need a set for my daughter and I want mine shorter then normal anyway so I figured this would be a good way to put two sets together. If not I may have to see about having somebody make some.

I do not think that they sell parts. It may be more efficient to buy more sticks. Time is worth something, and it would be hard to get a good standoff made in such a small quantity. It is hard to get anyone to do anything these days. Good people are working and have enough to do and the rest do not want anything to do. Welding a stick together is economical if you can weld aluminium.
Even a welded stick with all the hardware will cost well over $30 before you are done and double that if you put a cam cleat on it. Dan Infalt sticks are not an unreasonable price to IMO> Compared to making a stick. Or buying and modifying a stick. His sticks will have fixed steps and be longer than you might want. They will be 9 inches wide and stack well compared to a helium that is probably 4 inches wide folded up.
Also if you desire a cam cleat can be side mounted on a Infalt stick if you want. That is not possible on a helium. If you put a cam cleat on a helium on the top side of the stick they will not stack really well. Cam cleats are simple and safe - I was thinking of your daughter.
When the Infalt sticks come out they will likely be the best stick you can buy... unless you want folding steps then I would buy the helium.
I have tried them most of the available sticks or at least seen them. I have only seen @Dewey Infalt sticks in pictures. They look good.

There is not perfect a option IMO. I like the ones @bowhunter15 made and @flinginairos - two good options. I have done something similar.

I think xop or lone wolf are our stand off options and they will not fit a helium stick

Okay thanks for the info. I already have a set of helium's ordered so I'll hopefully have them by mid July or so. The plan was to cut them and make them a two step and do a versa button and rope mod. I was looking at building a set of mini sticks like you are currently working on. I figured by the time I spent the money to buy all the stuff to build a set it just cut these down to my liking. And if I cut them completely in half it would have a short enough distance between steps that would work for my daughter as well and give me the option to carry extra sticks when I thought it was necessary. I'll just wait till they come in and look at the standoffs that are on them and see if I can somehow copy them.

I called hawk in February and asked if they'd sell me the standoffs. They said no, because they receive the sticks completely assembled and packaged from the manufacturer. I said what happens if I break a standoff and want a new one? They said, send it to us and we'll give you a whole new stick. Damn them and their great customer service haha. Pay attention to how much you cut off. If you keep it ~ 8", and use the left over middle steps you'll be able to create a set of micro sticks as well. Then you can swap the standoffs from your 2 step modififed sticks to your micro sticks when you want. If you like the micro sticks, you'll just need to order standoffs for them. If you buy lone wolf standoffs and file a ~ 1/2" wide, 1/8" deep groove vertically in the face where it mounts to the stick, it'll work on the heliums. You'll know what I mean once you get your set and see the profile on the heliums.

I hope that makes sense and helps!

Sweet, I'm going to order the lone wolf standoffs if they'll work. I think I know what you're talking about as far as how to file them. I can see it without seeing it, kind of LOL. Thanks for the heads up I really appreciate it.

Yup medium Cam and 1/4" amsteel. Paid around 20$ for the cleat, so yes it's expensive. It does work pretty slick. Stacking them in the bag will be the next hurdle. I only did one for now.

You don't need many if you use aiders. Maybe a custom bag is in order.

Anytime man. If you mess anything up and need extra parts let me know. I’ll send you what you need man. I made a few oopsies myself when I was making mine lol.

I think you can
A 2 foot 1x1 carbon fiber post.... .91 g
Ronstan mini carbon cam cleat plus 5mm tech rope (5000 pound breaking strength) - 70 g
Lone wolf stand offs and screws 88g +88 g
single steps 127 g x2 made by @ImThere
Is it safe???

+91+70+88+88+127+127+= 591 g approximately

591/454 = 1.3 pounds approximately

Cost roughly $150 per stick. Use a home made versa button and heavier rope save $25

Me likey

Have been trying them out? Curious how they hold up

I have tried a lot of things. I will likely go with one or all of the following when I have more time to decide I will narrow it down.

1. A We stepp with aiders and cam cleats - packable and light - will make it soon
2. A 12 inch stick with aiders and welded steps and cam cleats - packable and light - are getting welded
3. Or a stick much like @flinginairos or @bowhunter15 have. - light - made last winter
4. I may buy an Infalt stick or I may not just because I can.

All good choices. I’ll have to check out flinginairos setup(didn’t want you use the word “stick” right there )
