My mind is thinking a love child of a preset, srt climb with those foot loops. Being able to plant it into the tree creates a more controlled stable feel when climbing the rope?? No metal hardware clanging around.. maybe??

I don’t see the necessity for rope climbing unless you have trouble standing with one leg. I use one leg to push my self off of the tree trunk and I stand with the other. Having both feet in the stirrups while rope climbing was not good for me when I tried it, plus you are having to push off of the tree as well as stand which makes a lot of noise against the bark. I wouldn’t recommend but tinker with it and you may like it more than I did.

I started with double stirrups. The advancements where almost half of a single strap.but with an adjustible bottom teather you can loose it to lift it,then cinch it up to help lift your feet.but that only gains a little hight.but there may still be some room for play in the techneak.without doing the jump move my dude did on youtube.realy the limitation is in how high you can lift your legs at the same time.may explore this again when I get the timesome one here in this focus group will figyer it out.it might convert alot Of climber stand guys to seeing the lite.

So does layer of clothes add difficulty? Shorts or pants on a 70deg day is one thing. Bibs, gloves, 20deg on a cold morning seem to make everything more difficult for me. Dang. I guess I gotta go dive thru @Red Beard 2TC thread again and videos.

These Foot Loops fit my LaCrosse (2000 gm Thinsulate) boots, just fine. As far as increased amounts of clothing causing difficulties....I'd say only when it gets in the really cold teens or less. It doesn't necessarily cause problems with the actual climbing method, it's just more difficult, like anything else when you're wearing enough clothes to look like the Michelin Man.

Can it be done, yes. Did I like it, no. However, I'm not a fan of the bitter cold weather hunting months anyway. Yet another reason to kill what I want to kill in the warmer months, so when it gets bitter cold I'm either sitting at home by the fire or hunting for something else on the ground.

Yea, you had it wrong. One tether you connect to the saddle and sit on. The other bottom tether you stand up on, whether that be one foot, two feet, etc. You stand on the bottom tether, move the top tether up and sit in the saddle, move the bottom tether up, stand and repeat. 2tc is a minimalist climber in essence of style and you've been missing out but we’re glad you’ve made it here now.
Love to see a video of this method with two feet. Looks like a good idea.

I descend by rappelling with the same rope. That is to say, I'm using both ends of my rappel rope to climb. Once I'm at my desired height, I set my platform, step onto it, remove the Foot Loops and put them in my daypack. I just tuck that end of my rappel rope back into my dump pouch, until I'm done hunting and then drop it out for a standard rappel with a Figure 8.

This guy is only using 1 Foot Loop (looks like a 2" safety harness/belt), but the method is the same with using 2 Foot Loops. Actually, it's easier because you have more power from using both legs and the 4" wide Foot Loops make it way more comfortable to stand while moving the upper tether line.
What is he using as his rappel hitch

@BowhunterXC how exactly are you using both ends of your climbing rope?
You just pick an end of the rappel rope and use it for the upper tether. The other end gets used for the lower tether and all the slack in between gets folded up and stuffed back into my dump pouch. I don't have any photos of it, because the dump pouch that I use for the rappel rope, just happens to be on my right side.
I have switched from the Ropeman1 to a JRB ascender hitch. It's lighter in weight, easier to use and I can leave it attached to the rope, for the next climb.
I'll have to get some more photos, on my next climb and update this post.

I just happen to have two tethers...

Now I just need a rappel and figure 8!

the thigh loop stage was the part that i didn't quite get but i don't need to if we've left thigh loops in the past. I plan on making myself some DIY foot loops pretty soon to give this a test, though i can see the appeal of the wide stap on the CGM style foot loops for sure.

I would recommend learning to go up as well as down 2tc. 2tc is super fast coming down and is great to know as a back up method to get down. With the bulk, weight and time to set up a rappel, I really think you can be down a moderate sized tree in the same amount of time as rappel.

Check out John from his JRB channel.
The Garda foot video shows how to make a double foot loop Garda hitch.
I used it last season works great.
