Electric bikes

Also the mid mount motors coupled with a center mounted battery can be super low key. They don't stand out like the hub motors with rear mounted battery pack

Interesting. The prices were way off when I compared the RadRover and Rambo bikes. It was at least $1000 difference. Maybe I need to relook.

Sent from my Galaxy S8.
It looks like the radrover is a rear hub drive while the rambo is a mid drive. That could be another deciding factor

The DIY doesnt seem like that much of a savings after you buy the battery also. And unless you already have a bike, you will need to buy that too. I think I would just stick to the pre built of the 2 you guys are looking at. What about the Quiet Kat? Besides the cost?

It could be.

Like I said in a previous post, I'm far from an expert. However, when I take the plunge I'm going with the RadRover. I'll use it wherever bicycles and non-motorized vehicles are allowed, and take my chances. I won't use it where bicycles are forbidden.

I have a Norco 6.1 e. Hub drive made in Canada motor. By Magna - a very large auto parts company . Good bike. I paid $2600 CD dollars. On clearance. Fat tires
It is stealthy quiet and fast

Do you use it for hunting? Do you recommend it? I'm getting one in the next year.

I don't know the Rambo 750watt bbs02 is 3000 bucks

I just got the bbs02 and 48v battery with all the other necessary gadgets for $800 shipped. As long as you pay attention to what bottom bracket ya got. My newer mountain bike has some kind of new fangled "pressfit" bracket that doesnt work, so Ive got to switch everything over onto a new frame.
Nashbar 29er frame....99 bucks, so $900 + stuff I already had. DIY much better than $3000

Read and watch enough of the stuff on youtube and it doesnt look that difficult. You can even order parts and rebuild these motors yourself going off the youtube if/when the time comes

The rad rover is $1500. Seems like motor and battery for $800 is better than what I was looking at. I am intrigued to say the least at both options.

It does look like Rambo may be switching motors though...the 1000watt no longer uses the bbshd and looks like the newer type of middrive that all the mountain bike manufacters are putting out now. I think bafang may have just come out with one of those too though, so it still may be a china (diy) motor. I think most of the hunting class ebikes are just guys doing what you would do with diy, but they work out some kind of bulk deal with a china merchant on ali express and mark the finished product up.

If you want something not made in china you can look into actual mountain bike manufacturers. This stuff is going mainstream really fast now from what I read and probably going to get cheaper

it was a special Luna cycle was running for a bbs02 kit and battery for 750, then 40 to ship. Not sure if its still up, but the bbs02 kit without battery can be had all over for $400 it seems

yeah its not the bbshd, but ah well.I'm going to invest as little as possible into this, but still try to have something decent

I use it on private land. It is quiet and fast. I don’t use it on public land. Because it is not allowed and I worry about theft. Yet most of the public land I hunt has Atv s roaring through all the time.

Most of the public I hunt is thick and not accessible by bike If I used public trails I would have to leave my bike somewhere when I walked to the thick stuff.

I wish I could use it more my 60 year knees could use the help.

The RadRover is a great deal with a good reputation for customer service. I have a Specialized Rock Hopper in the garage. If I added a motor, battery, fat tires, and other things to upgrade it, I think I'd be over $1100-$1200 all in. Plus I wouldn't have any customer service or Warranty. Plus Plus I'm FAR from an electrician so I'm not super comfortable messing with this stuff.

Well my dad beat me to the punch and ordered a rad mini. When he was putting it together there is a section in the manual about not going up steeper than 15% grade without pedaling and not working the motor over 500w.

I think that is the big downside of a hub motor, you don't get the advantage of shifting gears to help the motor. Electric motors like to spin at high rpms and if you can't shift down to allow it to spin fast when climbing, you can't get the most climb out of the bike.

I've decided to order the rambo then get the programming cord from luna to take the governors out of the controller. If I already owned a bike, I would probably build the whole thing from scratch but since I don't, this is a good starting point. When it comes time to get a second battery, I'm going to upgrade to 52 v. I've learned a lot this week by reading online and feel I am ready to modify the heck out of this thing........

This is my bike. I have 9 gears and have no problem with hills grass, rough ground. It has a throttle and 4 levels of assist. It is a lot of fun and of course the motor is Canadian made. I hear Norco is coming out with a new one in March
I know that you can buy Bionix kits and add them to some bikes. It is a well made motor.
I had the bike shop owner - who has one himself say he had to replace someones battery after 30,000 km. He said that is the first major repair for a guy that had it to ride to work for a few years.

The motor is in the rear wheel and has tons of torque for hills I have never seen a warning about over working the motor

I'm pumped to follow along with this build. Please start a thread and update it when you make mods!!!!!

If you do end up adjusting their settings it will probably void warranties (unless you could change em back to stock before you took it in ;))

Write down the stock settings and keep them with your receipt :sunglasses:

Lol! It won't be the first time I voided a warranty, and definitely not the last
