I’m currently using my hunters safety harness but I am trying to figure out which rock climbing harness I want and I will be using that.

Yeah just figured I would take a little extra safety precaution by using the Amsteel but I didn’t realize I was going to have to go through all this boring splicing stuff. I really just don’t want to take the time to do it. I ordered 100’ of Amsteel thinking I’d just tie a couple of loops on the ends to make a bridge and hook it to the fleece and boom I’d be done. But noooooooooo

You can buy continuous loops of amsteel already spliced for a few dollars.

That’s what I would have done but now I own 100 feet of Amsteel.

I never spliced until today. Splicing amsteel is a piece of cake. Tying the right knot takes time too but do not tie knots in Amsteel. @g2outdoors has a good video and there are many others on utube.

A wire will work for a d splicer and a knitting needle can work for a fid. I have seen video where a nail was use for a fid tool. It is easier with tools. Did you look a g2's video. I bought some tools.

I’ve done several with just a wire. Upgraded to the Samson splicing kit because I keep finding reasons to splice more.

Did my last amsteel splice using a zip tie as my fid. Actually worked pretty well. One of these days I will get myself the right tools but it is not hard to improvise.

Here’s the latest from Fever Dream Labs. A one dollar Goodwill ladies fleece scarf (tubular construction) about 60” long. I busted the seams on one end, and slipped a slightly smaller rectangle of closed cell foam into it, then tied an overhand knot on each end to secure the larkshead knots on the ends of my test 550 paracord bridge.

The whole thing makes a comfy bosuns chair kinda thing, and at 9” front to back it’s sized about like a Sit Drag.

Next step: order a RCH, some Amsteel, and finish my Ameristep platform.

It is! Might be a little warm on the rear in hot weather, but I’m chasing bluegills then. I really like how the foam holds the fleece in place, with the cloth only I was having the fleece roll up on me underneath my legs, creating a pressure point. You can sling it over one shoulder to climb, then it slips in place in a second. I might try to find a skinny scarf to make a back band.

If you have any aluminum arrow shafts lying around they make great fids. I have several of varying sizes that I’ve found in the woods or just have from my pre carbon shaft days.
