Flingin's video journal...

That's tough Fling. Thanks for posting. Its always hard to post stuff like this but unfortunately thats hunting. You dont see that on TV. Quartering to shots are tough. Looks like you made a great shot. Maybe a young hunter will see this and learn something

Great video. If you have it, a video on what condition you found the meat in would be interesting.

Didn't take video but have a pic on my phone. It wasn't pretty at all. Her other side was completely ripped apart, guts ripped open. Not good

That too bad. Hope you were able to salvage something.

Yeah, I need to do a little better on my angles. It wasn't a bad hit on my part, I just waited too long to recover. I feel she died not long after I jumped her. It's a fine line to walk, wait and let them die and risk yotes getting them or push it just a little and risk bumping them. Tough situation!

I’m starting to trust smoke more and more. You been using it long?

What experiences do you have that make you trust it? I only have a few instances that I can truly point to that I should have gotten busted and didn’t.
It is mostly because I haven’t used it much, and therefore don’t have many encounters involving it as a scent control measure.

Few years now. I've had a few experiences that really made me a believer. Had a doe start blowing downwind and instead of running she kept walking toward me. She was following my scent stream toward me. She got to within 20 yards and just calmed down and fed off. She smelled me for sure but calmed down. Another time I had three bucks within 20 yards, all downwind. They all had their nose in the air smelling it but never seemed concerned. The buck I killed this year I thought for sure was gonna bust me the first day I saw him. The wind swirled on me and he was doing the head bob, nose licking like he was trying to bust me. After a minute of that he stopped and fed away. I still live and die by the wind and setup accordingly but I do feel it helps when you get a swirl or deer where you didn't plan on them being.

Great videos. You use whatever's natural laying around or go with some chips?

Both. Usually a handful of leaves do the job.

I used to use smoke and I really think it works, but then my buddy didn't want his truck smelling like BBQ on our annual out of state trip!

Not sure if it's still around but the scent smoker has some good info on how and what to use. One thing they said was to use hardwood smoke as it kills the most bacteria and creates the most activated charcoal. I used to use hickory chips from the BBQ section of Home Depot. Like flingin said - the deer smell something and go on low alert but they don't recognize it as human and often settle back down. I think ozone machines in the field work similarly, just with a different smell....

Do you wear scent loc and then smoke them?

No, I have all Sitka clothes that don't have any kind of scent elimination to them
