H2 vs tethrd?

Some tell me why I should get a thethrd phantom....when the H2 seems to be checking all the same boxes at a lower cost?

I guess this was the original question. Which is better value for my hard earn paycheck and does the H2 check all the boxes that the phantom does and which should I buy not who came first.
I believe New Tribes - Boswell was upset with Tethrd when the mantis came out. He thought it was a copy. That discussion became unprofitable.

My comparison so far... never having sat in either.

1. The phantom is a mesh. The H2 is not.
2. The shape may be similar.
3. The lineman’s loops on the phantom may be better designed but does that matter for a cost conscious guy?
4. The bridge on the phantom is likely a better brand of rope but both are fine. The tether and lineman’s ropes are better with the phantom. I would use Oplux or ultra tech anyway
5. The phantom has bumps on the bridge loops. The H2 has a similar but different way to control bridge location on bridge loops. I don’t know what the better idea is. Seems like H2 got the concept for their bridge design from Tethrd. It is not a copy but the concept is the same. Didn’t Boswell have a similar complaint with Tethrd.
6. As far as cost that is an easier comparison.
7. As far as testing both are safe enough. Likely or maybe tethrd's testing methods are better. I really am not concerned.
8. As far as comfort. That is subjective and needs to be tested. Which is more comfortable - I do not know. The H2 is getting favorable comments. The Phantom is getting favorable comfort reviews from their pro staff. I expect comfort is very very subjective. I bet both are comfortable. However, maybe the recon or Wrap2R are more comfortable. For sure the Jx 3 is best as far as comfort in my subjective opinion.
9. Some might suggest that you should not buy the perceived H2 knock off and should support tethrd. That is a fair question but I likely don’t care if I have minimal funds which is why we go back to the original question.
10. I like to support innovation personally. I like what a Greg and Ernie have done to build the saddle hunting interest. I guess patent lawyers can sort it out - what is a copy? Boswell seemed to want to go that route with Tethrd.
11. Does testing for over a year make a saddle better likely or maybe? The guys who tested the phantom have a lot of saddle and hunting experience. But the question, is it worth the extra cost to me? - maybe. And yes I do value the opinion of the tethrd pro staff. They are biased though. They think the mantis is comfortable. The mantis is a great minimalist saddle for a leaner IMO. But comfort is not a strong point. The phantom was developed to fix that issue. I think the flex is comfortable but that is not the only thing I want in a saddle. We all have a different order of priorities. For me comfort is very important so I sit still.

I really want to know which saddle is best for me and at this point I am not sure. I am picky. The original question is a good one for guys that cannot afford to buy 3 mantis saddles and every thing else that comes out.

I may try a phantom if the recon, Wrap2R, and H2 do not suit me. The sling concept is interesting.
I am a guy that used to have very very limited funds but can now try various saddles and sell them off. I have empathy for the guys wondering about the original question. What’s the best deal so I don’t waste my valuable pay check. The H2 seems to check a lot of boxes for the cost conscious. If funds are tight I would see if I can try some local saddles. I would wait for a used one to come out. Prices and supply will likely be better this year. The number of saddle options is phenomenal compared to two years ago.

As we know, saddle comfort varies from person to person and with body type. I've done what you are doing and tried all I could find. I've owned several and borrowed a few others. I don't care what some review says about a certain saddle if it's a torture device for me. I keep two saddles in case I need the backup. I'm going to buy and try the phantom as well and if it replaces one of my two current saddles then it earned it and not because somebody with a different build than me said it was comfortable.

I LOVE having these options!

The original question Why not buy the H2 if it costs less. Yes comfort is very subjective. Many people think the sit drag is comfortable or the mantis... not for me.

These companies are all pushing each other, and thats a bonus for the sportsmen and women. Price point, features, quality, comfort safety, testing standards. Cant wait for the h2 to arrive to test it out. I have no worries about safety and quality. I love what Tethrd did with the bridge loops. Seems H2 found a ridiculously simpler way to do the same thing...and I respect the heck out of that as well.

One thing for sure- I didnt STOP paying for education when I left college. Right now Im in the beginning stages of the learning curve, so trying to save where i can, and maintain safety. This year will be all about climbing practice and low height platform/saddle work. Im lucky enough to have private land to hunt, with established stands. Might have to take the saddle to Hawaii next year for Axis deer though! When i retire though, in a year or two I plan on really branching out where I hunt. At that point I'll be ready to go all in on the mobile gear. By then Im sure there will be something new and improved!.

There is controversy on the social media pages that the H2 uses some no name buckle instead of a raptor or isc buckle...

might be a good chunk of the price difference.

A reply on Facebook from Heath

H2 Saddles is looking deeper into the load rating on the buckles. There has been statements that the buckle is not considered part of the safety system of the saddle. We consider this true, to an extent. The waist belt as well as the leg straps are considered to hold the saddle in place so the main strapping can do it's job. So it does need to be able to handle some load, just not the entire load that a free fall may impact to the system.
The buckle that is used on the H2 Saddle is represented by the supplier, both in the written specifications and physically stamped on the buckle to have a ultimate load capacity. H2 Saddles, in turn, reiterates those limits as a component of the system. We will look closely at these represented limits and if there is any discrepancy determined, we will appropriately state those limits and/or seek an alternative.

Interesting point. It will matter to some people. The waist buckle on the JX 3 is plastic. Does not bother me.

Not to the saddle
I know this sways topic a hair but has anyone tried the tx5 black eagle or whatever from Matt Tompkins?
They all loo the same anymore to one degree or another and I agree with the competition rising prices will tip in our favor as the consumer, but I wondered if anyone has experience with this as it’s basically on the same level as the H2?
Thanks in advance

Yes, and the H2 is not on the same level, I have seen both. Not just my opinion, it is echoed by others that have seen mine too.

It looks like a cool saddle. And it makes sense that four webbing straps would lead to less pressure That saddle by Matthew looks like another saddle I want to try

Thanks for the info
That’s weird but useful how the leg straps route up thru the back to keep the saddle from sliding up.
I love My AH flex but that is a solid “looking” contender compared to what else is available. I’d have to see one in person and log a few hunts to get an accurate opinion.

The buckle on the waist belt is non load bearing. Used to hold is in place as you walk in or wear up the tree prior to tethering in. If you were vested in saddle usage you would already know that. Next slam on the more reasonable saddle please.

Perhaps you should read my comment again. I stated a fact that something was posted on FB.

Then I stated the obvious that the buckle the H2 uses is probably cheaper than the Raptor buckle used on the Tethrd. So... that is where some cost savings is with the H2.

I stated the obvious. I didn’t slam jack!

No slam. I ordered an H 2. If it is comfortable I will use it. There are things that make it less costly to build than a kestrel or phantom and that is ok. Observations and criticism are helpful to everyone. No matter what the company. Just because a good guy sells something doesn’t mean we cannot have profitable critical comparisons. The buckle and ropes are helpful comments. Some won’t care about either . I don’t care about any of the lower quality parts.
Some people want a Hyundai and some want a Lexus. They both get you to the same place. If I want safety I buy a Honda. If I want Canadian I buy Honda.

We need honest discussions so new hunters buy what is best for them without hype or because I like the guy. I really hate to see discouraged first time saddle hunters.
Both the phantom and H2 are likely good saddles but different
Some differences are obvious without sitting in them

Couldn’t agree more!! That’s how good comparisons turn personal & then get threads shut down.

Think you for your honest commentary on this subject and I agree 100% on your post. H2 makes a good product for a fair price and i would stake my 26 years of rope rescue experience on this saddle hanging with the best of them. The weight baring companies meet industry standards and I would put it up to any saddle out there. Great post on your part.

I deleted it cause it was false information... The weight rating is right on the freaking buckle. I know Heath and he has made sure to test his product and it is very safe. No saddle is TMA rated . Every saddle on the market now has been proven beyond a doubt to be safe. We aren't getting into bashing products here on this group page. If you do your gone. Hopefully everyone can carry on as usual.

A new Facebook comment on the H2 buckles. The information on the buckles was false. From the moderator
I deleted what I copied from Facebook.
