Not a fan for hunting....spearfishing is a different story.... started that in college and it's the only thing I miss about Florida

Ya the fishing is incredible here. The hunting isn’t too bad once you get over the idea of sharing the woods with bears, panthers, gators, venomous snakes, and the skunk ape. With all that being said the worst part is how thick the underbrush is!

Interesting to read the replies. And good to see that people know the actual number. I remember when I was younger, I’d be at the archery or gun store with my Dad, and I’d hear guys boasting that they’d shot “hundreds” - “boatloads” - or “a ton” - of deer with a certain bow, arrow, broadhead, caliber, or rifle, and I’d shake my young head back and forth, wondering if they realized how silly they sounded, even to an 8 year old child. (Back then, the state issued one tag for archery and one for rifle….the days of multiple antlerless tags every year or crop damage permits had not arrived, so even the young version of me knew those guys were full of it; there was no legal way for anyone to shoot “hundreds” of deer.). Because of this, I have kept a detailed record to know exactly how many animals I’ve taken with a variety of equipment over the years. While the number is large, and continues to grow, it’s kind of individual and somewhat irrelevant beyond a certain point.

I agree that at a certain point it doesn't matter. I suspect the difference between 100 dead and 500 dead is very different from 5 dead and 50 dead.

I started this post for several reasons. Curiosity, mainly. To encourage myself to keep count and have a place where I could go back and look at progress. And, I must confess, so that when people give advice on deer killing I can search this thread for their user name and see how much stock I put in their advice, and so I can get an idea of where they're at before i offer advice.

Generally, I've found that the best advice I can give folks is to shoot deer. Any deer. Best way to get the shakes out, build confidence, learn tracking skills, and a whole lot of other skills that are better learned by doing.

Hmm.. That sounds like familiar advice. I remember hearing that somewhere a time or 2?? ;-)

@Nutterbuster it is just a number. I could catch up if I really wanted to but Literally have a cooler full of meat that’s sitting next to my freezer that I am swapping around every evening. It’s making a trip to my mom’s thanksgiving and hopefully coming back empty.
If it’s legal, moral, and fills the void left by the lack of crotch goblins (I think that’s what you called them) in your life keep stacking them up. The rate you’ve been on the last couple years you should see a hundred before long.

I've added 6(3 bucks, 3 does) deer to my ledger since I last replied to this thread oct 19, 2020. Still got one more tag left in the county for this year. Freezers are kinda full so I probably wont look for places outside the county. Will be a doe so hopefully im not staring at monster bucks for the next week or so. Still cant remember how many total i've killed but I'm in the low 40s at least
