John Eberhart's Kestrel modifactions

I cut out sugar and grains and am intermittent fasting. 2 months in and down 18 lbs. I’d like to drop another 30 by fall. If I do, I won’t be as worried about how much I carry in.

Good for you.

Well, your body needs carbs to perform. You can replace the bad carbs with legumes. i.e. beans = pinto, black beans etc. Eaten 2-3 times a day. Legumes are considered a power food. Your body digests these carbs/protein differently. You will not get a spike in your glycemic but the legumes will give you will have energy.
Another thing to consider is staying away corn syrup. It is in everything including a lot of domestic beer.

Breads that have processed or enriched flour which is even worse.
Sugar is a pure muscle weakener. A potato every so often is not bad for you.

It doesn’t actually NEED carbs to perform. You can reduce your carbs low enough to switch your body to a ketogenic state. It stops using carbs for its fuel and switches to fat... reducing them to ketones for a long lasting energy source.

There’s a lot of info out there for ketogenic diets, and I really loved being on it. My wife can’t stand fatty foods, so she told me the diet was over, lol. No cooking a separate meal for me. But, I lost 37lbs in just under 4 months, kept it off for another 6, and felt ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.
She and I were talking just last night about how crappy I have felt for the last couple months while I have been off the diet. My migraines came back, my sugar crashes have come back when my meal times don’t line up properly, and I gained about 10 pounds back.

I really do miss being on an essentially no carb diet. And, I miss being able to eat all the fat I wanted.

Well go back in the ketogenic diet.

I'm real interested in the keto diet. I've heard a lot about it on the Joe Rogan podcast and it seems there's a lot of science to support it. I don't know if I want to deal with the Keto Krash or Keto Flu that comes with making the switch.

I did keto with my wife a couple years ago. There's an adjustment period some call the keto flu as you break your addiction to sugars (it varies, some never experience it). After that it was pretty easy to stay on and I quit jonesing for a hostess cupcake after a week. I lost 10 lbs fast, but the diet was giving her headaches so we went back to... Well, recklessness.

Yup. I've heard it called the Keto flu and the Keto crash. I may give it a whirl sometime.

That is the reason I suggested earlier to eat legumes instead, your body will still loose weight. With Enriched flour the germ and fiber are removed. Your body metabolizes it differently. ie sugar spikes.

However, loosing weight is simple.

3 balanced meals a day. Burn more calories than you consume.

The Keto flU is TOTALLY avoidable. Keep your hydration up, your sodium/potassium/magnesium levels up, and don’t cheat with carbs for the first few weeks and you won’t have those symptoms.

Been doing strict KETO for 4 1/2 months now - down from post hunting weight of 235 to 198. I am feeling so much better and off just about all my meds and pain meds. I am back in the gym lifting, cardio, and cycling..... KETO with IF is easiest program I have ever followed. I never got the rash and I felt a little bad for 3-4 days but certainly nothing like the flu. The key is to increase salt, potassium and magnesium while adapting. Id post a pic of before/after but I don't want you croc wearers getting all excited and envious.

Any help on knowing what material @John Eberhart used for his bridge here? and possibly where to get it?

Not sure of exact material but others have used climbing rates tubular webbing to make a webbing bridge. His looks like he stitched the loops and maybe even folded a piece of 2” webbing over on itself and stitched that.

I was curious because i like the thickness it has. Its very rigid looking and strong. I see what your saying with he 2 inch webbing. Ill try doing something like that and see what i get.
