Learned a lot in my 1st sit in my sit drag

That hitch works best with 2 spliced eyes. If you use cord without them you will have to make 2 figure 8 on a bight and that gets bulky.

Will Amstel bite in a friction knot like this? I have to a boat load of 1/8" and some 1/4" and very little 3/8"

I don't know much about Amsteel.
I was just making a point that maybe was already apparent. To make the Schwabisch hitch like in the picture it works best with a spliced eye at each end of the cord or you have to create 2 eyes by making knots which are bulkier.

Yes you are very right, and I did notice it. That's why I was wondering about Amsteel, I can splice the eyes for a nice clean knot. If it's not recommended I can get the right length rope premade with the eyes already done nice and clean.

Amsteel will work. I use it as prussic cord for Hammock stuff.

Sent from my Galaxy S8.

Ok I'll give it whirl, all my hammock stuff is Amsteel too. I just don't have any prussiks in that stuff that's weight bearing, just some ridgline things and tarp stuff. I wonder what size I should use?

I think a general rule of thumb is 2mm smaller than your tether diameter

While amsteel may work, I would NOT use it for a friction hitch. Amsteel is slick. Using amsteel like this goes way off the map of how it is intended to be used. I would stick to something intended for a friction hitch with your life on the line.

I wondered if it would be too slick, I probably wouldn't have used it for my harness tie in, but maybe just for the sit drag. The more I think about it, I may just order a couple pieces already made up. What are those pieces called? I've run across them but can't remember how I searched them. And how long should I get them to make a knot like this? I wouldn't want it way too long, and obviously not too short either. I know those wraps eat up a lot of rope fast. Maybe in the 12-18" range?

ropemans are so worth the money for one sticking. at least for your tether. Also if you don't have a rock harness paired with your sitdrag for one stick, It should be the first thing you invest in

So is a screwlock or treequickie for getting around limbs fast. Ive been using a quickie this season and really liking it....faster than the screwlock on my rappel rope

I'm getting 30 foot in under ten minutes and limbs don't pose any big slow down.

Crooked trees, just stay on the high side so your toes can stay in contact while in the aider

I don't know what your homemade sticks look like but with a versa button, A larger than normal loop allows you to grab the top of the stick and twist it off.

A mod I made to lonewolf strap with 1" tubular webbing

This is me after last season trying to work this out on like my third climb. Didn't have a Quickie then but also wasn't dealing with limbs in this climb. Just to show what I mean by twisting the stick off from the top.

This is what I use a also use it as a rappelling back up shows no sign of glazing

Thanks for he video and info. My stick is like a the cheap stick models, 2 steps 20" apart and double steps on each side. And I do use a versa button. I don't have any problems on nice straight trees. I wish I would've taken a pic of the tree. It was about 10-12" giant fork at ground level, and limbs that went out at at about a 45 degree angle from the trunk, some on the high side in my way, some not. It was so crooked though that my aider would either lay against the tree making seem impossible to get my foot in it or swing off sideways, and that much sideways pressure would drag the bottom of my stick over to the side. The biggest problem was simply lack of practice in such a crazy tree. I would have to swing off the side in my RC harness to move the stick up, and fight to get back to the high side. It was was probably a once in a lifetime tree, because I've never attempted a climb in something so crazy. The limbs weren't so much of a problem other than every time I'd climb up on me stick I'd have to go around a limb. When I hang my stick I leave my strap a touch loose so it slides about 6" down before it's tight, this way I can slightly lift up on the stick and it's loose, then a little twist let's the feet come off the tree and the strap has enough slack I can slide it right up without having to loosen then strap and retighten it every time. In my opinion, that crooked of tree wasn't the one for multiple step aider. I'll try and take a video of how I climb and my setup. Hopefully by then I'll have a ropeman or two ha.

Yeah thinking about a tree that you’re describing now , falling to the low side and what not, sounds like a set of sticks would be necessary

Yep that should fit the bill

Most definitely! It ended up being a great tree, because even with all the moving around I was well hidden. I would love to be able to do screw in steps for a preset, but it's public. Would also have been good to be able to use gaffs.

Would it be safe using a 30' lifeline to repel down with? It's 11mm. Reason I ask is I have one laying around, then I could just buy the repel device and possibly be set. I'm not sure if lifelines are static or if they have stretch.
